Official 2021 Belgian Grand Prix Thread ***SPOILERS***
Discussion
Round 12 and Belgium, for many (and me) the best circuit on the calendar. Max and RB will be hoping that the RB16B is well suited to Spa, Merc will be hoping it can fine tune the Silverstone updates as no other in-season developments are now planned. You would think that RB will keep them coming, in Honda's last year.
It seems that the newly-strengthened rear tyres have benefitted Merc more than RB, so it’s probably a Lewis win for me, particularly as this is a Mercedes track and the usual Merc 1-2 last year.
Interesting to see if Riccardo can get any nearer Norris’ pace after the break and whether Ocon can continue his momentum after his Hungary win.

We’re half way through the summer break already, yay!
Always a great track to be, although the fastest of the modern cars have outgrown many of the challenging corners. Eau Rouge is flat and Blachimont barely registers as a corner in the dry. Pouhon is now the qualy lap challenge, dare to not lift off all the way around there.
Will be a great atmosphere in front of a crowd, which one can imagine might be mostly Dutch.
Red Bull on the back foot after no points in two races, and with both RB and Ferrari looking at engine issues later in the season thanks to accident damage. Lewis will come back refreshed as always from the break, but there must be a niggling feeling that the team threw away a win last time out, which in a very close season…
Can’t wait for the season to get going again,, and Zandvoort has just been confirmed as on too, with 2/3 of a full crowd.

Looking forward to spa (of course) but really excited for zandvoort. It's going to be interesting seeing how the teams get an n setting the cars up for such a unique and new circuit with limited testing time.Always a great track to be, although the fastest of the modern cars have outgrown many of the challenging corners. A double-header of home races for Max. Hopefully Lando can make the most of the fervent McLaren support of the orange army.
Not that I've seen Lando capitalise on this but he's also half-Belgian so may claim a sort of semi-home advantage.kiseca said:

Can we hope to see Williams in the points again at this race? Spa is another fast track with high speed corners. GR was able to qualify in Q3 at Silverstone, and his race pace was competitive.

We are going to see if the Merc upgrades are working as well as we think - and I suspect it is going to be close, 1/10th maybe to split the top 3 cars......
Might still be hard to judge though - RB may well up the power here for the sake of getting max back on top, both in the points and mentally. Given they're almost certainly going to take a fourth power unit this season anyway, there is probably a good argument for pushing the current one more than they otherwise would..SpudLink said:

P3!? He's good, he ain't that good though... Can we hope to see Williams in the points again at this race? Spa is another fast track with high speed corners. GR was able to qualify in P3 at Silverstone, and his race pace was competitive.
You probably meant he made it to Q3...? Where he subsequently placed P8 - which was indeed a good effort. Points however remain unlikely and will require some misfortune for other drivers to elevate the Williams.

What will be interesting is just how Spa can reward two completely different set ups-sector 1 and 3 rewarding skinny low downforce while sector 2 plays into a high downforce car's hands.
Who goes for what will be very intriguing.
As will who decides to take any engine penalties they feel they may need to.
