Teenager wins curfew zone challenge
Discussion
This is why our society has collapsed.
A perverted legal profession turning on the society they were supposed to protect.
To turn things around the first thing that will be needed is to pack off most of the judges to la la land where they belong and recruit people with some common sense.

Haven't looked at the link - is this a new chav reality gameshow?
You know....it actually is....
Tell you what, if these kids were making a nuisance around where the defending solictor lived, he wouldn't be so quick to step up and take the cash.
Monkeys, the lot of them.
There was a thread on this a while back. Essentially a non-scum teenager campaigning for his right to freedom, unfortunately by winning this case he is entitling a lot of scum teenagers to freedom that shouldnt be their right.
Police need greater powers to deal with troublemakers without fear of contravening some trivial law, and the police need to ditch their idiot officers who dont know have any common sense.

Unaccompanied under-16s found in zones after 9pm can be held and escorted home, whether badly behaved or not.
And that, my friends, is why it cant be allowed. It'll be "adults found outside their homes after 10pm" next........
If they have a problem with badly-behaved youths then deal with those youths. The idea that people can be rounded up and forced off the streets, having done nothing wrong is obscene. I know I'm probably p
g in the wind with this view (on here anyway) These cretinous laws all come about because of the fact that there is no punishment for the real wrongdoers in today's world, they introduce a stupid law that criminalises a huge swathe of society because it's easy and then have to retract it when it becomes clear that it's grossly unfair and ill-considered.

We are not talking about adults here but children, no unaccompanied children should be out after 9pm. If the parents are allowing it then they are failing in their duties as parents.
The kid is an idiot - all that will happen is that the police will now be given these additional powers and thus no kids will be able to go out at night anywhere.
Whilst perhaps due process should have been followed by highlighting the issue in this one area the entire police force will "legitimately" say they can't do their job without these powers and thus a carte blanche power will be on the cards.
Should have kept quiet and let the initative pass....

So you were never allowed out after 9pm under the age of 16? I was, frequently, I even "hung around" with my friends sometimes. But I didn't spend my time sniffing glue and mugging old ladies and that is the whole point. If they are unable to punish miscreants it is not acceptable to punish everyone in that particular demographic.
Would it be OK to ban muslims from the London Underground?

So my 14 year old couldn't walk to the end of the road and back at 10pm? and, if he did, that would make me a bad parent? I don't think so.
When a law is introduced that criminalises people who have DONE NOTHING WRONG, then that is overstepping the mark.
I think it is entirely correct that someone decided to fight it and I am glad that he did.
If the issue is people being anti-social then are the authorities seriously suggesting they do not have sufficient powers already to deal with the problem? Damn silly.
It seems to me that this government thinks they can deal with problems by simply introducing more and more legislation.

Definately. Effectively punish those who cause the problems & let the rest enjoy the freedom to act in a reasonable manner when & where they like in public.
The article said:
The Home Office, backed by lawyers for the police and council, argued the application for judicial review should be dismissed and said the zones did not breach human rights or common law.
What about "Innocent until proven guilty" No-one should have the right to move an innocent person along just because of their age.
There a 400 dispersal zones in the entire country. Those chosen are obviously trouble spots-so I will rephrase what I said earlier what sort of parent would let their children enter such an area.
I would agree in part with what is said above that this is merely tackling the symptoms of the problem rather than the causes-but until we have the will to start sending teenage criminals down for some serious jail time, we will have to make do with such paltry measures.
What we don't need is some judges who have no idea of the situation outside their own little world start coming out with cr*p about children's human rights being infringed. Someone who has been mugged, or who cannot visit their local shops because of gangs of yobs hanging around, they have had their rights infringed.

If anti-social behaviour is occuring why aren't prosecutions for such behaviour occuring?
Simply designating places as dispersal zones does not deal with the problem. It just moves the problem to another place that is not yet a dispersal zone.
A bit like the scamera partnerships saying they cannot do anything about collisions on non-cameras targetted roads.
Do we want to deal with symptoms or root causes?
