Hi all,

I’m debating on buying this….

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/McLouise-Glen-690-Motor...

But the arch/sill on the drivers side looks like this…

The seller is going to have this repaired and the van will be sold with a clean MOT.

The rest of the van looks fantastic and - the above aside - looks a good deal.

What would you do?

On a seven year old van I'd be very concerned at that level of corrosion and very likely tempted to walk away

It’s 17, but I can’t imagine that makes much difference?

It wouldn’t worry me if repaired well, the only concern would be more rust, we have failed one of these before where the rust was a lot higher up which would have meant dash out

Ah ok! It’s right low down in the arch where it meets the sill. I’ve read all sorts about it being basically terminal and a year-on-year challenge of keeping the rust at bay.

if you must have it , work a deal where you get money off and you choose who repairs it properly

a basic mot patch up to last another year is leagues away from a proper quality repair , my guess is it would have the cheapest , quickest patch up to look ok and sell it

are others that old all rusted ? id keep looking for a cleaner one

At the very least you need to be poking everywhere with a screwdriver.

Campervans are used infrequently. Rust is a killer.

I'm not familiar with these vans, but if it's in one arch/sill I'd be fairly sure it's elsewhere too..

Thanks for your replies all. I didn’t bother - felt like more trouble than it’s worth.

Thanks very much for taking the time to save me a tonne of cash!
