Have done a search and I am now a more than a bit confused....

I have a ford TP which looks like it was bought in 2001...

the wiring is as follows

is this right or could it be that an earlier one was replced with a non ford TP so wires swapped then a ford one put on again more recently and wires left how they were???

When disconected the car is lumpy and hesitant and wants to stall.....

when connected none of the above but I am checking all the sensors at the moment...

Would it hurt to swap the two outer wires back so they matched and see what happens... the connectors are crappy blue ones so it definately an aftersale adjustment....

Your diagram is exactly how mine is wired. It is the result of swapping the outer wires to suit the revised output of the gold connector TP (which all Ford ones are now). When I fiirst noticed it on mine I thought it must be wrong, swapped the wires back (Brown to brown etc) and it ran like a pig. Quickly put back it back and it has run fine ever since

Throttle potentiometer..... tells the ECU how open the throttle is.

They can fail then the car is lumpy, doesn't idle well and lacks power and hesitates...

someone will come along shortly and probably give a much more scientific explanation.

Took mine apart after I had replaced it. It was very damp inside! the wire strands that made the contact also looked a bit ragged. I replaced mine with one from TMS at £20.00

Chris
Phone number for TMS is 01664 481065
Fax Number 01664 501070

Part Number for the throttle pot is "C03G02 Throttle Pot"
Cost was £17.60 plus VAT

I'm sure they do mail order but if you are struggling I can pick one up and bring it to "S Club Heaven" if you are going. Else it could be a good Sunday blast to meet half way. I'm at Junction 23 M1
