Hello,

I'm interested in the 1.8TSI Leon, I'm late 20's so not sure it's the right car for me but useful for the mountain bike etc..

Is the 1.8TSI a reliable engine? I'm looking for something with a bit of omph but not too bad on fuel.

Thank you!

Yes the post 2011 EA888 engine is now a very decent unit. Providing the oil is changed according to schedule they should be good for at least 200,000 miles. Decent power can be reliably extracted from them by remapping alone - around 250 bhp.

The 150 BHP 1.4 ACT engine also found in the Leon, isn't that much slower, but a lot more economical and only £20 quid year to tax if that's a major consideration?

I that engine not a lemon? or am I thinking about another VAG car?

The newer (we have a 2019) 150bhp engine is a 1.5tsi and it goes pretty well, it also drops down to 2 cylinders around town giving +40mpg cruising

No, that engine is fine. Its used in various VAG platforms.

You might be thinking about the older twin charged 1.4, which indeed was a bit of a lemon
