Hi

I am thinking about getting a leased car for my daily driver but don’t fancy using it for dogs, allotment or tip trips because it makes a mess!

My plan is to buy a second car and for some added ‘pleasure’ maintain it myself as well.

I would appreciate any car suggestions but as a starter for 10 because of what I want to use it for I presume an estate would be a good option and because I want to maintain it myself maybe not an SUV.

I would ideally like a car that is ‘easy’ to work on. I recognise that with any car some repairs will always be a challenge but I am aiming for something that has plenty of space making parts easily accessible and where the more regular repairs are relatively simple using commonly available tools.

Given what it will be used for I am not looking to spend a lot which probably fits well with the desire for something simple.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,

I love maintaining my second car myself, its one of the joys of motoring. Mines only a e85 z4 so cheap as chips but fun to work on.

Given your circumstance maybe something like a mk4 golf gti, or similar. Easy to work on, great for dogs and a tip run, cheap to get hold of and maintain?

Maybe give us a rough estimate on budget, PH is full ofnpowerfulky built directors so cheap to them may well be an RS6 or similar hehe

An old Ford Focus or Mondeo estate - relatively simple and cheap parts.

Saab 9-3 Estate mainly vauxhall based and fairly easy to work on.
Enjoyed my Passat Estate too, was a 2005 so a B5 I think, again spares readily available and easy to work on.

Thanks for the suggestions, the Saab’s look interesting, are they ok for parts given Saab went bust?

Yeah because they were built from parts from the GM parts bin
