Heads up for Aberdeen folk, the consultation on the proposed LEZ for Aberdeen City Centre closes on the 22nd of August if anyone wants to have their say, link is:

With work underway to complete the dualling of South College St to Great Northern Road, the LEZ will force non-compliant vehicles to take much less efficient routes through the city. Increasing their emissions. Genius. Also note how for some reason the LEZ starts after the entrance to Union Square car park - "we want to lower city emissions, but don't want to upset Union Square so keep driving there if you want".
I suspect the unintended consequences may well prove worse than the benefits. Ill thought-out proposal.

Must be missing something here but surely there must be diesel cars registered before 1st Sept 2015 which produce fewer emissions than some registered after that date? If you're fortunate enough to own some massive diesel V8 or V10 car registered after that date but someone with a 2.0TDI 4-pot has a car registered before then that seems to me to be disadvantageous to those who are not very wealthy.
As it stands, my 5 litre V8 Jag XKR will be fine in the city but my wife's 3.0 V6 diesel XF S will not, apparently. Time to trade hers up to an XFR-S estate...

In reality I strongly suspect that it will be done on Euro emissions class rather than date of registry - Sept. 2015 is when Euro VI came in for the majority of all new diesel car registrations (it had been required for new type approvals since Sept. 2014).If you live north of the city there's no way to reach even Union Square without driving the long way round and approaching from the south, which is exactly the catalyst needed to persuade the last northern diehards that shopping is crap in Aberdeen and that ordering online is the way forward.
My wife has a Fiat 500 that can still come in. I would require to be paid handsomely to own most modern cars so all of my cars are no longer welcome in Aberdeen. Suits me really - there has been nothing of interest in Aberdeen city for me for a long time.
The only annoyance is that if I get asked to return to working from office, it will increase emissions substantially overall by adding a large percentage extra miles for me to cover driving around the city at off-peak hours rather than down Virginia Street, Market Street and across the Dee there.
Given how few cars actually fall into the unwelcome category by their own figures, one wonders what the actual point of it is besides being seen to be doing something to please thick people.

Feels a lot like that, doesn't it. Also rather ignores the fact that there's an industrial harbour right beside the city center. Wonder how many of those ships are Euro-5 compliant.Also can't help but wonder, is the "need" for this based on pollution statistics collated from before or after the AWPR opened? That was touted as being required to reduce pollution from haulage and pass-through traffic which had no other choice back then but to traverse the city. If that was true and it's working as expected then is there really any need for this now?

I own both.A 2016 4.2 V8 diesel which will be allowed in, and a 2013 2.0Tdi which will not. Yes, it seems a bit daft, as I know which drinks more.
I actually eyeballed a bunch of motors wandering into town a week or two back, in terms of the amount of cars registered from before 2006 that are actually regularly in town, it is actually a surprisingly small number.
This still raises the question of if it's going to make that small a difference, what is the point in implementing it?
I think all the ridiculous road restrictions they've put in place over the last year or so though shows the disregard they have towards anyone who happens to live or work in the city.
Better stick with the 5.4 AMG as the 1.8 lotus is too polluting.

Randomly the entrance to "my" office is out of the zone, but the exit is in the zone, so if you do not have a suitable car, you can drive to work, but never leave work.
I also have a wonderful view of the bus station, perhaps if they spent some time looking at the buses rather than just running them into the ground it would save a ton of emissions, but thats just my thought.
As someone else has said, why say anything, they have made their mind up already. I mean, its not like the city to go ahead with what the people are saying not to do, and its not like they have empty shops and stuff that are struggling for footfall.

I haven't had any reason to go into Aberdeen for a few years now anyway, (visiting mates excepted obvs ) but the AWPR has been a godsend for getting to Dyce without going through town. Just imagine how little heavy haulage Anderson Drive would've seen if the AWPR had been allowed to be built during the oil heydays. Instead of opening just in time for the industry to slump onto its arse.
The sceptic in me says it could just be a ploy by the ruling party to keep the Greens onside by promising to impose LEZ across all cities...
I've not looked into this as I've got no real intention of going near the city centre again, but my understanding is that historic vehicles are exempt - so anything 40 years and older?
I may make an exception in a couple of years when my Trabant turns 40 and take a tour of the city centre
