Odd question, but my Mrs is picking up her new (used)car tomorrow and I'm not sure if it's been taxed or we will have to do it.

There is nothing stated on the invoice that would obviously cover it, there is a £199 'Admin Fee" which " includes the cost to fully valet, register and, if necessary, MOT your vehicle..."

Does register in this context of a used mean tax, or should we expect to have to pay the cost for tax?

Is a dealer obliged to tax a car so it can be driven away or does that obligation fall to the consumer?

Basically you will have to tax the car when you go to pick it up, you can do it online, and it's easier when you have the V5c reg document in front of you

Ta! I'll double check with the dealer in the morning, just in case it's included, but I would have expected there to have been a line on the invoice

It won’t be included. You will do it when you collect as mentioned above.

Similar to us, except the sales lady did all the work and then just took a standalone payment from us.

No it won't be taxed, I do it for the customer using their credit/debit card when they are sat at my desk and we are completing the paperwork.

The only time we do it prior to collection is if the car is an ex Motability car, as they need taxing the old fashioned way at the Post Office, however we add the cost of the tax to the invoice, letting the customer know why.

Crikey, they're getting higher all the time.

OK, it was ex-motability, and I can see that it's at home on the driveway, so she's either driven home without tax or sorted it out one way or another!
