Just stumbled across this video whilst looking for a new chain

I realise the video is old so probably not news to a few of you but I thought it was worth posting as I was surprised how relatively easily they got through most of them.

It’s always been the case that even good chains can be got through pretty quickly, and with modern battery-powered angle grinders nothing’s likely to survive an attack if the scrotes don’t mind being noisy.

I’ve a 19mm chain, which most bolt croppers won’t fit around, but it’d be no use on a desirable bike parked in the road overnight.

The old tips are still valid; use a cover, leave as little slack as possible in the chain, and if possible park it out of sight.

I’ve stopped buying scooters that the gangs target, and d a am fortunate that my GS doesn’t seem popular with thieves, but I had five bikes and scooters stolen in quick succession from a “secure” garage with 24 hour security guards patrolling.

They were st, but unfortunately because of some bad drafting on the lease of our building the commercial tenants on the ground floor had the right to appoint them, and it was impossible to get them to up their game properly.

They did catch them once, sitting on one until the police arrived, but I think he got a fine and was right back out stealing again afterwards.

After one of the scooters went I decided to try a Vespa, and when the salesman heard why I was buying he told me not to. As he put it, I’d be followed home from the shop and it’d be gone in the first hour.

What would a undesirable bike be?

R1200GS, for one.

With the scooters just a change of colour scheme made a difference. The Aprilia racing colours would be stolen immediately, Zanussi white not at all.

They have got better since then, however they can still be removed with the right equipment.
