The sound system in my car is a B&O and offers a lovely clean sound. However, there is a distinct lack of punch from the sub in the boot. This is under the carpet which doesn't seem to do a lot really unless the seats are down and parcel shelf is out.

Gone are my days of massive 12" boxed subs in the boot, but I wondered if there was anything that can be done to improve this? Seems a shame as my friends 2 door S5 has a much stronger sound. Presumably the sub is somewhere else in this but I've never bothered to ask.

Obvious question, but have you turned up the sub level in the sound settings?

No wierdly there isn't an option to. Just the option to turn up the bass which currently as high as it will go.

Strange that.

I have a 2014 Q5 with the sub in the spare wheel well in the boot, and I've got no problems with the sound or its loudness.

There is a separate setting in the MMI for the sub level, in addition to the usual treble, mid & bass levels.

I would have thought all models with a similar age would have the same MMI software / options.

How old is you S5?

I did look into this and it appears the option isn't present in all models. A very odd feature to just enable or disable if you ask me!

Mine is a 2016.

Have you scanned for fault codes yet? Would have thought the subwoofer would still pack a bit of a punch. Certainly does in our s4.

Some cars that have an underfloor sub allow it to be easily removed for extra luggage space. Have you checked it’s actually plugged in?
