Glenshee/Lecht/Old Military Road area
Discussion
Just a word of warning if you're thinking of heading in this direction to enjoy a drive soon.
Many sections of road in this area have recently been resurfaced by the crap technique of spraying tar on and then spreading the chuckies on top.
No fun in a car and probably dangerous on a bike.
Leave it for a week or two settle down.

It seems to be the preferred method of road maintenance by Aberdeenshire council. More than likely because it’s cheap. All the roads round my way have been done in the last month and it’s painful. Even when the main grit is pressed in, there is always a pile at the side of the road ready to be kicked up to do damage.

I had a mate that would go and collect the excess with a trailer when he was doing a concreting job. He may have also nicked some turf from a roundabout for his new lawn...abzmike said:
I see there was a fatal accident between an MX5 and motor bike at the weekend on the Lecht road - don’t know if related, but reduced levels of grip likely didn’t help.
There didn't appear to be any surface dress warning signs in the area of the accident which suggests the area wasn't in the process of being surface dressed, and surface dress increases skid resistance by retexturing the surface so I think it would be improbable.I can't stand surface dress and would love it to be banned, but unfortunately there is evidence that it provides a cheap method of extending the life of roads and with council budgets being cut it is pretty much the only option councils have on some roads.
