Series 1 chassis number location

good morning all, I'm in the middle of recommissioning my early 280i FHC wedge, I currently have all the four corners( and the bloody diff) off for fettling. One thing I am having problems with is locating the chassis number stamped into it, I have the plate on the passenger inner wing alright but for me to get this car registered in southern Ireland they need to see where the factory stamped the chassis, and bloody minded they are too. I have seen other posts saying it is on the drivers front suspension upright, yet after removing the rad and other bits I cannot find it. Did the factory stamp all the chassis from 1980?

Can anyone help before I pull whats left of my hair out.

Should be near the off side side front suspension. I did have a very early convertible and it was on a small plate welded to the off side radiator upright. They are hard to find as can be quite feint. Hope this helps.

Wedgeone, you may be on to something, I have just been out to the workshop and yes there is a small plate welded onto the offside rad support, its quite rusty so I'll paintstrip it tomorrow and hopefully find the number.

Well I found it, as Wedgeone stated it may be on the offside radiator support. after a bit of cleaning up its there.
