S3C Dashboard repair - veneer required urgently!
Discussion
Chaps,
Due to recent temperature changes, the horrible plastic veneer on the main dash has decided to bubble up and fall off making the whole interior look s**tty!
Someone did offer a service on here where a relative/friend of theirs was producing replacement veneers that were applied with the dash in situ but I can't find that link anywhere!
Does anyone know anything about this or does anyone have an old S3 dash lying around that I could buy & use as a template?
Cheers
Steve

Along the same lines, has anyone got the measurements of the centre heater/lights control panel? Planning on knocking up a template, fabricating a few new plywood panels and trimming them to see what they look like/if I can do a decent job. Dimensions would save me having to take the panel out, measure it and put it back again before I get started.
Sorry to hi-jack your thread Snooky

Cheers guys!
The car is at David Batty's at the mo & he's getting her ready for me as I have to sell
He's offered to take the dash out for me and I think I've found someone who will be able to cut a template & produce some really nice walnut veneer.
Its a bummer as its gonna cost a few hundred sheets but at least someone will benefit from the nice new dash!
Still there could be a market for quick & easy veneers if we could develop one that can be applied to the car without taking the dash out!!!

I have a David Gerald receipt in front of me for S3 dash veneered (£250) and switch surround panel (£49.99). Total £299.99 ex VAT. But that was in October 2003. They also charged £191.25 ex VAT to fit em....... Am I ever glad that was before I got the car
Just to give an idea of costs, hope its of some use..

I have some solid walnut which I am replacing mine with when I get the chance. When I looked at costs of real wood finishing Black Walnut Croch veneer it actually worked at cheaper for me to do it this way. (Mostly because the press I have access too is not large enough to press the whole dash). A lot of the real wood veneer I looked at you could see the stitching when polished. Obviuosly with real wood you cannot go for the endgrain look at a walnut tree is not that big, but the lateral grain looks quite pleasing to me anyway.
