Hello, the title is a bit generic, I’ll explain below what I mean biggrin .

Currently I have a car that is really uncomfortable, the most annoying thing is the manual gearbox, the gears are very short and it tends to jump at each low gear, plus it’s incredibly slow, other people frequently try to hit me in the back after each stop…

I was thinking to buy a new car, with lots of space and high mpg, ideally I wouldn’t go for something lower than 55 mpg.
Below some requirements:
1. I need to carry a 29 inch enduro bike, but I’m not aware of any car that is able to host such bike without dismounting the front wheel.
2. 55 mpg minimum, I refer to combined.
3. It would be great if I can enter the ULEZ in London, I think that it needs to be hybrid at least…
4. It needs to have an automatic gearbox, the manual is too uncomfortable in UK, too many roundabouts.
5. I was thinking to a Rav 4, or any BMW with high storage, I honestly like Audi or Mercedes, or better Mazda but in UK I don’t find used models with an efficient engine.
6. Simply wait the EV revolution, maybe about the end of life of my current car (5-8 years), and then buy an EV directly, I may get a cool car for 25k, but I seriously don’t wanna wait so long.

Let’s come back to the reality though, my car costed me 5700 + 300 of extended warranty, in 2y, between major maintenances and one component broken I’ve spent 1k, so in 2y I’ve spent 7k, 291 pounds monthly as of today…
I was counting to have this car for a long time, in a way that the monthly cost would have gone down, but looking the reality, it seems to be a silly expectation.
On the other side, the cars mentioned above are much more expensive, not only by default, but I guess also maintenance costs…

Plus the insurance will be much higher, currently I pay 550, I started from 1040, changing with one of the cars above it would raise again to 750 I think.

Why is it such a big deal to have to remove the front wheel off your bike? If I take the front wheel off my mountain bike, it will easily fit in my Audi A3.

Anyway, here are my suggestions

Renault Grand Scenic

VW Touran

The reason is pretty silly, it’s a task I want to remove 😅.
The main reason is the automatic gearbox though, the rest is optional, but it’s important to consider the consumption of these big ass cars 😁, as well as maintenance costs, insurance etc…

Online I saw that these MVP will last 100k miles. Honestly I couldn’t my find more informations, what the people mean that they will last up to 100k miles?
Does it refers to the next significant breakage? Or any major maintenance like cambelt, drive belt and water pump?

It's in reference to all vehicles, around 100k is a major service point on most service schedules.

People have a fixation that 100k miles is the end of the road for cars. It is complete rubbish! Any car that has been somewhat looked after will sail well past 100k, yes you may have wear items that need replacing.. but you should expect that on any car.

Look at cars in the States, they class 'low mileage' as anything under 150k miles. Regularly see articles on bog standard cars with 300k+ miles.
