I have been looking for an ML (W164) for the last month or so, and have been amazed by the fact that very few have full leather. Doesn't half-leather feel low-rent, and only desirable if you are doing extreme off-roading and struggling to stay in your seat?

Having children and living somewhere muddy half-leather seems a non-starter. Or am I missing something?!

Warmth?

It means it is only half as cold in the winter and half as hot in the summer (if you wear shorts you end up stuck to the seat).

Half leather is definitely the way to go on something a bit sporty but for an ML I am not sure.

One positive though - being a Merc the chances are its half plastic and not half leather...

I've just bought a car and was specifically looking for half leather rather than full as it can get to more 40 degrees in summer here. If you get very hot weather leather seats are awful.

My last car had half leather, it didn’t bother me in the slightest. I just guess it’s whether it bothers you, which I reckon it does since you decided to make a thread about it.

I've always been an advocate of full leather, but I have half leather in the 370Z and I don't mind it to be fair.

Years back though I didn't like the half leather in my Mondeo ST24, and I'd have preferred the full leather in the Ghia X model.

Half leather gives you leather on the edges which wear badly with cloth and cloth in the middle that you don’t stick to in the hot weather or freeze when it’s cold.
Ideal as far as I’m concerned.

I’d never choose anything other than full leather as my children are so messy. Otherwise leather/cloth feels a bit cheap but leather/alcantara I like

I always used to plump for full leather whenever I could

However, eventually I got tired of too hot, too cold or just too slippy despite the looks

I tend to go half leather now but it does depend on the style and quality of the cloth sections. Some do it really well and some just make the seats look cheap

Currently have an Audi in S-Line trim and the half leather is really well done

I had a Mk4 R32 with half leather and that was by far the best option.
Doesn't burn or freeze your legs and is more comfy by miles.

A bit sporty leather alcantara is the best imho.

I remember my dad having an XJ6 with cream half leather, but the half was a heinous floral print fabric, not good lol
