With the prices of fun cars and some non fun cars being mental for reasons I am sure we all understand what would be a good depreciation proof car to own for a year? I ultimately want to buy a ftype r but recent price increases which I will believe will correct next year have put me off for the time being.

I am thinking small, low cost so % increase and as such decrease will be small, reliable, low running cost. My initial thought was a 5 ish year old Ford fiesta.

Any other ideas?

Yaris GR 0% APR selling above list should hopefully hold a lot of its value for a year or so. Problem is getting one I guess

Did think this but can’t see one being available.

I'd have thought a hot Clio 182/197/200 would probably hold its value reasonably well, and they're not too expensive to run. Or a Civic Type R?

Don’t disagree but looking at newer cars to reduce the potential for me to burn money on unexpected repairs.

To be honest it’s a punt on values with one of those and % wise it would be a bigger loss if it goes down than a 7k car.

Prius. The taxi trade has been decimated due to lockdowns but will recover.

Prices look reasonable, will be 100% reliable and cost buttons to run

I am couldn’t bring myself to buy a Prius!

I am imagining if I buy a 5-6 year old 6-7k decent fiesta that comes with 12 month MOT and service i am in for tax and running costs. It’s not so old lots should go wrong, if it does it’s cheap to fix and hopefully it’s depreciated enough that over a 6-12 month period it will only lose 500-1k in value. I will be putting VERY few miles on it. It will be a school run car 2 times per week.

Prices are currently high. A Fiesta is unlikely to be a depreciation proof car because there are so many of them.

Any reasonably new car will depreciate (with very limited exceptions). A Fiesta will definitely depreciate. For doing very few miles you'd almost certainly be cheaper with something old and cheap.

Agree it will but 500-1000 for a 5-6 year old fiesta over 6-12 months seems realistic?

I am reluctant to buy an older car due to possible issues that will need repairing. I have bought older cars in the last and have always had to undertake repairs.

So long as it runs, repairs should be minimal. Get a diesel workhorse of some description. Old enough that you don't care about it looking nice.

E9x M3 there’s one for sale on cutters still under BMW warranty can’t imagine you’d lose much of anything in the next 12 months
