looking at an MX5

I wasn't looking for an MX5, but a local garage have one up for sale and it's one of the cars I'd like to own for a summer just to cross it off the list. It looks in good cosmetic condition for its age and will be sold with a new MOT, but the MOT history shows a recent fail for quite a few issues, including corrosion to chassis and sills, and the only 1000 miles since the last pass in 2019. It's not listed online, but the reg is GJ03 RZS.

I know that rust is a problem on MX5s, particularly ones of this age. If this one has had its major issues fixed do you think it's still worth considering?

If it comes with an MOT and a receipt or pictures of the repair work completed, you should be ok. The cynic in me says it will get a ticket from another MOT tester/ garage without the work being completed....

Hard pass. There is so many up for sale you can find a better example. Whats your budget?

Unless the work has been carried out with proof its most likely an illegal MOT and you will be in headaches come next MOT.
