These can have lots of problems. I assume that you did your due diligence before buying an f10 M5? These aren't a car to buy without a lot of research.

In my experience, the F10 M5 was rock solid. I had mine from new (2016) and covered 50k miles over 30 months, before chopping it in for an F90.
I did get a quote for from brakes, they were about £500 if I recall correctly, but I chopped it before they needed doing. Services were covered by a service pack on my F10, and you can easily get quotes from the BMW website and dealers for the services anyway. The F90 has the same basic 4.4L engine, I don't have a service pack: running-in service was £480 (which was discounted, I think full retail price was about £700), and first oil service was £380.

I did 30k in mine didn't use any oil however I had it from new and looked after it, some cars get abused.

How much oil is it using?

Did yours give you issues?

Ho ho ho. It's obvious these have issues, you'd need to be a blinkered idiot to not know otherwise. My due diligence has told me that.

How are those blinkers?

I'd not agree that they're ALL rock solid as my first F10 M5 was rejected due to severe issues with the Injectors causing the car to go into Limp mode. After several failed attempts to fix i rejected the car & was later told the diagnosis was contaminants in the fuel rail during manufacture.

The replacement however was rock solid & ran without issue for the 3yrs i owned it. Was even brave enough to fettle it after 12mths with DMS & their Stage 2 tune, so running 748BHP & 700lbsft for 2yrs & 30k miles.

S63 engine is good if maintained in line with its performance. A full BMW service record in my view is not good as extended services are too far apart. Also BMW do not pre soak the oil filter so when they start up they run dry for a few seconds till pressure builds after filling the canister. My old one was mapped to 752 by Evolve and had no issues but after it left me it had more fitted and recently scored a bore and is fked now. Warm them up, cool them down and service them more than BMW says and you should be fine. My F90 will get tuned and serviced accordingly.

Thanks for all you're input guys I've done some research but it was bought more for experience and not to worry about a big bang I have extended bmw warranty so hopefully will be a good experience for me I've just done 1200 miles on a trip around Scotland and it didn't miss a beat great car and I suppose there no going back now 😀 the car is using half litre oil every 4/5k sure that would be normal for this type of engine

Mines on 142k miles from new (2015) still with full BMW SH and I'll still hand it to main dealers if anything needs doing. Haven't had a warranty since its 3rd birthday and sleep soundly at night.

Few very issues overall - its been a very dependable daily and like w8pmc I had the same 750bhp map on it for a total of approx 70k miles but have since left it as standard.

Mine uses a 1l top-up every 2-3k miles now but historically in lower mileage until 80-90k it hardly used anything. I just put it down to age / wear. I also change oil on half intervals now and have done since about 80k.

My only advice is to keep using it and give it a bloody good blast from time to time. Mine had almost no issues for 80k miles but lots of sitting around and short journeys through lockdown resulted in a few things rearing their head - cam sensors, injectors, the 'big yellow grommet' etc. I'm convinced it's related to sitting idle. On 86k miles now.

I had the big yellow grommet (which was leaking) plus both the rear door membranes done preventatively last winter. After the only time in its life the car had ever spent time sitting (during 2020) just as you say.

Those are standard 5 series issues though, not specific to M5, other than that the grommet is harder to access.

Mine has 46k on it some of you guys have clocked some miles up with few if any issues which is great what is the grommit expensive fix or would it be covered under warranty if it needs doing have comprehensive warranty with bmw as some of the big issues that can go wrong can be so expensive to fix as I've read a few horror stories but not to many no more then other car brands but i wouldn't want massive repair bill if it goes bang I'm comfortable with the cost of warranty for now lol I knew it was not going to be a cheap adventure but worth every penny and I've got a super car all be it a heavy one 😁

I have to agree with a previous poster, these cars are lubricated, fuelled and cooled to operate at the maximum of their performance, and need , in my opinion, to be driven as such, obviously a car with this much performance might make that difficult, but I say enjoy and hoon as often as you can! smile

Crikey, if you’ve got the money for an M5 you could have bought a few full-stops to go with it! laugh

If you’ve got a comprehensive BMW warranty then relax. You’re golden.

Only costs you might get are tyres (buy only Michelin, no matter what anyone else tells you), brakes (yikes) and servicing (not too bad really).

Enjoy it!

I agree on the servicing costs I've come from a merc e350d amg coupe and the servicing costs compared to the m5 were much more
