12 month stop gap

Given the state of the current used market, I've decided against spending decent money (30kish) on a car right now. I'm therefore looking for something to tide me over for the next 12 months and see if things have settled dowm.

Budget of 10-12k
Fairly bullet proof and unlikely to sting me
Be able to fit golf clubs in
Decent comfort for daily motorway commute

I'm thinking something like an Octavia VRS or Golf GTI but would welcome so other ideas.

How about a Lexus IS - there a normally a few available from the main dealer network within that budget, and it will certainly be "bulletproof". If servicing is kept within the dealer network the warranty now runs to 10 yrs!
