Paint supplier for S1000RR engine casing touch-in
Discussion
Really embarrassing mishap with my ‘20 BMW S1000RR at the weekend - the classic “sidestand not properly down” in petrol station. Was off the bike at the time and basically laid it down as gently as I could.
There’s a scuff on the bronze-coloured alternator cover and I’d like to touch it in (and then probably get it replaced at the next service).
The paint code is WM3S and it’s called Copper Metallic Matte. However I can’t find anyone who can get the formulation from the code.
Any ideas?
Thanks very much.

RS Bike paint.
We used to send all of our BMW customers there for touch up paints. They’d do everything for panels, frames and engine cases. I’d be amazed if they can’t help.
I called them yesterday. They couldn't do it because they said they haven't seen an example to colour match to yet.We used to send all of our BMW customers there for touch up paints. They’d do everything for panels, frames and engine cases. I’d be amazed if they can’t help.
I'm surprised because I thought the paint code enabled any paint supplier to retrieve the formulation so they could mix some up. But haven't found anyone who can do that yet.
I've got a limited edition custom HD colour so getting matching paint is a nightmare.
I've used RS Bike paint for spray paints before when I repainted side panels and they were bang on perfect. Took about 5 days to arrive and was really easy to match on their website, but they are great on the phone too.
For touch ups I got a two stick pen set from a lithuanian compay on ebay that was also a pretty good match - took about two weeks to arrive via Germany. This was about 4 months ago, so I shouldn't imagine there woudl be too many issues in that time.

Brilliant, thanks. That must be the same Lithuanian company I was looking at. I’ll order some from there. If it's scuffed, rub a tiny bit of filler into the scuff with your finger to smooth before you paint.
Also, ( hear me out) with the metallic matt casings, to touch in, it can be better to apply touch in paint by dabbing with a small sponge and gently 'dab out'. It gives a good blend. I did this on a gen2 casing can the scuff was then invisible.

Thanks very much. The scuff is really just a chip in the paint. Like a little flake of paint is missing. Should I try and level this out with filler before painting? Also, ( hear me out) with the metallic matt casings, to touch in, it can be better to apply touch in paint by dabbing with a small sponge and gently 'dab out'. If you think the paint will cover it, just use the paint. if you can feel it with your nail, I'd use a tiny tiny bit of filler, but rub excess away when soft with your finger. You dont want to be sanding.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
