A mini R nine T review.
Discussion
As posted on here, I'd been thinking about a bike, something new, no hassle, that was nice at 'normal' speeds while being interesting to look at.
It came down to a BMW R nine T and a Thruxton RS.
Having been along to look at both makes of bike, I decided pretty quickly the r9t was the one.
I then decided I wanted a 'sport', which was alloy tank, titanium Akra link pipe and can, along with some other bits. Further to that, I wanted the one with the weld down the tank.
Finally a bike in the right spec and price came up

Full 'sport' spec
welded tank
alarm
traction control
Led indicators.
I'm only about 200 miles in, however I've done that in side 48 hours which goes to show something I think!
Initial impressions:
Looks great, really nice build quality.
Sounds great
feels really light
great on fuel
ABS+TC can be turned off on the move with a single switch.
Best thing, its quite a weapon, handles really nicely, low down weight, a little lazy turn in, very stable. it can properly get a wiggle on, feels as quick as anything upto 90, gearing is spot on, brakes are great.
on a Dartmoor early morning blat, it was lovely, just plain boring good fun.
I think the one major mod it could do with, its a proper rear shock, if you're really pushing its a little 'bouncy', also the blobs on the footpegs can touch down, I think they'll screw off(not looked yet), or failing that, I'll let them wear down a little.
overall. better than I thought, I can see why the reviews are so good!

Thank you. Great looking bike and good that you are enjoying it. Did you work out if there is much difference between the model years - ie would an earlier bike be similar?
Not really much in it, I much prefer the cleaner clocks of this year, the first(euro 3) didn’t have adjustable forks, so I think this is the sweet spot(euro 4).jason61c said:

They all do that Sir, BMW budget was very low for the rear shock on all the various models. A Nitron R1 will make it feel much plusher and smoother as well as much better controlled, like night and day. The Nitron R2 and R3 are also available if you feel the need - very similar effect but more adjustability.I've been eying out the Nitrons for mine too - although for the scrambler I think the front shocks also need doing.
There is a sizable leap in price for the R2 and then the R3. So wondering if the R1 is all that's really needed? I'll never take a pillion or serious luggage, but I'm a 120kg guy - but I don't think I need "adjustability".

I don't like Nitron. I've spoke to MUPO, their AB1 Evo is less than £800 inc vat and delivery(on offer). I think thats were my cash will go. Spoke to Maxton, their shock of the same spec is £1k.......seveb said:
The R1 is a fantastic shock for the price, £489 inc vat with the spring of your choice (to match your weight and riding style) and spring colour and set up for you. I've had Nitron on several bikes inc my R9T, including the fork kits, it's like a different bike.
