F**K X 10 !

Just gave up after second half hour long attempt to change the rhs dipped headlight bulb in my 2016 civic. Why in gods name do car manufacturers make it so difficult?

I don’t have large hands or arms but i still am struggling to unhook the metal hook that holds the bulb socket. Doesn’t help the rod for holding the bonnet up is in the way partially, plus you have to REMOVE the down pipe for the screen wash bottle to even unscrew the cap over the bulb area.

Had a look at the high beam bulb unit and of course it’s a piece of piss to access and remove ( the one set of bulbs you could get away with not working )

Any tips or advice ? Failing that i assume Halfords have tiny trained meerkats to get in there ? Lol

It’s ridiculous isn’t it? I have to jack up my S2000, remove the wheel, remove trim clips and peel back the wheel arch liner etc.
I’m not one for zealous legislation but I often think it should be a requirement to be able to change a headlight bulb, without tools, at the roadside.

My 2000 Accord & my wife's 2000 Megane both had headlamp bulbs behind rubber covers & easy to change.
My 2005 Civic was very difficult with little space & having to work blind.
My 2010 Octavia vRS was simply - turn a large plastic headed screw, pull a small lever and the whole headlamp unit slid out. There was also a lever inside to partially shield the dipped beam for driving on the right. So simple I used to adjust the headlamps when waiting in the queue for the ferry.
My wife's current 2010 Clio requires bodywork to be removed to change headlamp bulbs.
My current 2018 Leon FR has all LED lights so I'll never have to change a bulb.
As cars change to LED lights hopefully inaccessible bulbs will cease to be a problem.

I sympathise. On my 2012 Civic I ended up dislodging the wire clip and had to take the bumper off in order to remove the headlamp and re-locate the clip!

Having done that I feel that I now understand how it all works and would be happy to change another bulb in situ. Basically, the trick is to push both sides of the wire clip at the top forwards and move it to the offside of the car. It should then free up the bulb.

Is the 2012 the same shape as the 16 ? No up to date in the models !

Will maybe give that a bash before getting Halfords to do it.

I can only get one finger access to the clip , but i s as I wasn’t sure which way the clip was to move that didn’t help things ! The manual is very unhelpful, something along the lines of “unhook the hook” lol

I think it will be the same. If you're feeling brave enough you could try the main beam bulb which is easier to get to and which will demonstrate how it works. You can then have another go at the dipped.

Yeh i did look at that , annoying that is so easy to get to but so little used as a light compared to dipped !
