Hi all,

I've finally decide to get back on a bike after a break of 18 months. I think I've settled on a S1000rr (loved my 2014 one), but am split between a gen 3 and gen 4.

Either way I'm buying used, low miles, not new. The gen4 seems a huge change, being an all new design and engine, but will cost around £4-5k more.

Anyone got one? Good/bad feedback? Experiences or thoughts on late gen3 v gen4?

I'd been considering a 1299 Panigale, but my head keeps telling me that i'd soon regret it as the bmw is easier to live with on long (300mile) days out.

The gen 4 is definitely a better bike but if you only rode the gen 3 you wouldn’t be disappointed with it.

Comes down to what else you could do with the money saved.

I would want something more upright 1000r, 1000xr if the main use was doing 300 miles days (I had a 2014 rr).

Thanks. I'll test ride a gen4 to gauge it its worth the extra. You get much of it back when you sell a bike later I suppose.

In terms of 300 mile rides, that's a max, big day out. Most days it'd be 150 miles. Really happy on a sports bike, but draw the line at self torture smile

I had a gen 2 S1000RR, just put a deposit on a 1299S. The BMW is very probably a faster, cheaper to run bike. But I've got a Ducati itch to scratch, time will tell if Ducati are all they're cracked up to be...

i'd be really keen to hear how you get on with the Ducati too. I've had the same itch but keep fighting it with 'head versus heart'.

The Ducati is fast and looks/sounds good, the BMW is just fast.
