Higher mileage newish cars - Volvo S60
Discussion
Back looking at S60’s there is almost a £3k price difference between the two T8’s I’m looking at.
I’ve found a heavily optioned T8 but has higher millage for a sept 19 car, talking 33k, similar priced base spec ones are £3k more but are almost new, less than 4K miles and they feel pristine, the older one has almost every option box ticked, including B&W sound, pano roof, 19” alloys, winter pack, BLIS, 360, CarPlay and even a unused retractable tow bar fitted!! Seems come resale options not adding much value and the 30 miles making a significant dent in its value.
As I only do about 8k miles a year I,ve placed a deposit for the older one, anything in should look out for with higher mileage car, not that this is massive miles! £3k does sound a significant saving but if 4 tyres need replacing that’s £800, a service needed sooner is £450, 30 miles sooner to brake changes and other maintenance, it all adds up. If I wanted to sell after a couple of years, would the value of a 50k vs 20k miles maintain a £3k difference or likely to be more? The £9k worth of options on the older car is clearly worth having, I just hope it’s not looking too tired as not seen it yet, it’s been a senior staff car at a dealership who visits other branches all over the country, it would have been maintained.
There may not even be a question here, more recently I’ve either bought new or with less than 5k miles hence a little unsure about going older.

Going to say it sounds like a demo car hence the options and mileage.
Just check for additional wear on the interior, lots of people have been in and out of it.
Check for paint repair, some demos aren't looked after that well but hopefully it's been correctly serviced and tyres are decent.
The options may not affect the value later on that much but it will make the car more desirable compared to a car with no or few options.
The longer you keep it the less affect the mileage will have the value also.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll find out more when I see it, they seem to want me to commit before for I’ve test driven it but as I’ve paid the deposit via their website I should be covered by distance selling regulations.
Yes, my concerns are for the interior as at that sort of mileage car begin to feel used rather almost new at sub 15k, it’s not a concern if the car wasn’t £27k! However list price is close to £56k so it’s lost half in about 29 months.
All the ex demonstrators are actually very low millage, due to locked they’ve hardly been used so I’d actually prefer that, this one belonged to a fairly senior staff who worked throughout and clocked up the millage visiting other sites, I’ll see once it been prepared.

My experience is that whilst the current Volvo interiors look great, they don't wear terribly well.
When I was looking at S90's and V90's - cars around 2 years old and < 40K miles they all looked far more lived in than a similar age Merc or BMW. All relatively minor stuff - scuffs on the metal trim on the door cards, piano black trim covered in fine scratches, worn touchscreen - but all of the cars I looked at had this to a greater or lesser extent which suggested it was the materials rather than treatment that was the cause.

I must admit I'm a little worried by this as I've only seen very low millage ones and they a near enough new, 33k miles is a lot of time spent in it, only way I'm going to find out is on the day collection is arranged, I would have gone to view it even though 3hr round trip but salesmans been off. It's also a hybrid so the battery has another 30k on it, however they are warrantied upto 100k miles and always underperform even when new.

It's been serviced on time, only had that one service, the service intervals are 18k or 1 year, second service due in September. I'm not worried about the warranty as I won't do up to the 60k in 3 years, my annual millage is low so it will balance over over the years. It's the extra's that are pulling me towards it, decent ones as well, ie Pano Roof, B&W sound (£2500 upgrade!!) Tow bar which I'll never use but was £1175, 360 cameras, adaptive cruise, Pilot plus, Auto parking, 19" wheel upgrade etc etc, will be much nicer place to be than a base spec.

33k isn't high miles & if the interior is showing any signs of wear then it doesn't bode well even if you buy one with 15k on the clock. I will say that I've notice higher mileage (80-100k) Volvo's don't seem to wear as well other makes.
I can't disagree with that, however as the current V60 and S60 only appeared mid 2019 and with Covid very little driving done all the examples are less than 10-11 miles, most less than 5k so difficult even to find pictures of anything near 30k miles. could it be because Volvo use Nappa leather which is generally softer but creases easier. I know the BMW standard leather is robust but at the same time not very nice, Merc have a lot of fake leather so more hardwearing.
Struggling to find an alternative, ie relatively quick sub 5.0s to 60, decent size and less than 2 years old for below £30k. Lots of Golf R' or BMW 135's 140's but not the kind of thing I'm after.

The warranty has about 14 months to run, that would be the same regardless of millage as I'm not going to hit 60k miles within the 3 years, the cars with 2-4k miles are the same age just less used, the warranty period remains the same. If the the roof leaked on a brand new car after 12 months you would be in the same position.I've decided to go for it as the next cheapest is £3500 more and nowhere near as many extra, ok the millage is more and you don't quite get the new car feel but they all end up the same shortly after, at least this way I've saved cash and will have the extras to play with.
