Do you need a good internet speed ?
We have 2.5 mbps
Would that be OK?

Bizarre, Drama and Yesterday back on but still no BBC 1
Could it be a problem with the satellite?

Dropping the odd channel is usually a signal strength issue, how accurately is your dish aligned or how big is it? One easy thing, if you don't already have them is to install inline amplifiers between the decoder and the LNB - like THIS which worked well for my Sky system, or, if you're only on a standard dish, upgrade to an 80 or 100cm dish, we're in the Auvergne and an 80cm dish plus amplifiers works superbly.

We are a bit south of you in the Aveyron We have a 1.2m dish We upgraded when they changed the Satellites a few years back and have not had any problems till a couple of days ago.
The signal strength is quite good I think? Even in heavy rain we used to get a good signal
I will try an amplifier like you suggested don`t know what else to try.

I assume you use a VPN? How do you connect the firestick to the VPN and which one do you use?

I've got a fire stick but as above would like to know how to go via a VPN. There is 1 caveat however, the method needs to be explained in Luddite as if you start talking tech I just go crosseyed smile

I've been working through this recently - hence the question.

From my playing it looks like you can't run a VPN natively on the firestick. You can use a smartDNS paid for solution (where you change the DNS server to point to a providers) but I have had mixed results with them and I dont really want to pay. I'd rather VPN back to my UK house and run the firestick that way.

I've managed it previously by having a 2nd router which connects to the VPN and broadcasts a different wifi network. I had to do it this way, rather than just using one router and having all traffic sent through the VPN, due to the slower speed over the VPN.

My ideal would be a router where I can pick certain clients to go through the VPN and others not but that doesnt seem easy to find. Interested how others are attacking this.

I think that the big players BBC, SKY, Netflix have a pretty good idea where the servers of most of the big VPN providers are located and so are very successful at blocking them. If you look at Trustpilot for any provider, they all tend to work well for the free monthly trial, and then deteriorate rapidly. They advise switching servers, but you tend to end up spending more time fiddling, rather than watching TV programs.

I am in the Loire Valley and FreeSat works really well, but even my UK Netflix account has morphed into its French equivalent, so that some films that friends have watched are not available to me.

I've been using ExpressVPN for a few months now and it seems to work OK. I was led to believe that BBC had the most advanced "VPN sniffers" but I can watch iPlayer no problem. Amazon Prime is the only service that detects it, but doesn't seem to mind me being in France.

I just run everything on my laptop connected to my TV with an HDMI cable.
