Comfy Cars AKA what car do I want?
Discussion
I want to change my Car in a few months, I was going buy a Golf R estate, or possibly some kind of interesting 3 Series Touring and I was toying with the idea of an S4 Avant.
But, as of this morning, as this seems to be the week everyone has gone back to work, I've decided the problem with all of those is that, whilst I quite like the idea of a sub 5 second 0-60 time, 155mph top end and lots of grip etc, 99% of my driving is School Run and Motorway and my current car just lives to crash over pot holes, drone it's tyres and generally look a bit agro (even if it's not) and it's all be bit irritating really.
Do any manufacturers make comfortable Saloons and Estates anymore? Something that's quiet, has soft seats, compliant suspension and some kind of auto (DCT or Auto, not fussed).
I'm looking for something between £20k and £30k, 3-4 years old, will do 30+mpg on the motorway.
Finally, and probably the hardest bit, isn't an SUV.

One of my neighbours has just bought a Jaguar XJ - 2018, 3.0 diesel, I think he said 19k miles, for £21k including extended warranty etc from our local dealer. Seems like an absolute bargain to me.
Isn't this the Jaguar engine implementation that is fundamentally designed wrong and doesn't get its DPF hot enough ? Lexus is a good choice, but I would be going with something like this for comfort:

I’m exactly the same, can’t be dealing with hard ride and big wheels
Options include Mercedes E class in SE spec
VW Passat. Ford mondeo (still the best seats I’ve ever sat in)
Volvo S60 in inscription with small wheels
Basicly avoid anything “line” or sporty.
In your budget could be several S class or 7 series BMWs, all with air suspension goo

I'm pretty sure you are referring to the 2.0 diesel found in Disco Sport, Evoque, e-pace etc where I think the fundamental flaw is to do with the dpf location relative to the engine.3.0 V6 diesel in the bigger Jaguar's/LR's is just as good as the 6cyl engines from Audi, BMW & Mercedes.
Cheers,
Chris

Mercedes E43 and E400d are just about skimming the top of your budget in that age, and you still get to have sub-5s 0-62mph times with a modicum of fuel economy. Plus they are comfy, and available as a wagon. Finally, and probably the hardest bit, isn't an SUV.
At the very top of your budget comes the E350d All Terrain they come with 20's but ride very well.

Used Jag XE or XF (petrol) should hit the mark.I'm looking for something between £20k and £30k, 3-4 years old, will do 30+mpg on the motorway.

New VW Arteon looks quite nice although I haven't driven one as of yet.
