Hi,

Has anyone had any previous experience with Vintage & Prestige https://vandp.net/sales/ ?

I'm interested in taking a look at a DB6 they have for sale https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1326458

The price seems competitive but the website doesn't fill me with confidence!

Thanks

I'd never heard of them, clicked on the link and was surprised to see what looked like Arthur Daley dressed for the Henley Regatta at the top right

So then I went to Companies House and they've been incorporated for a year, have one director (who has significant control) and their confirmation statement is overdue. The website claims the company and its trademark is owned by one Visayas Vintage Car Restoration Inc, which is not what Companies House seems to say. Companies House has no records for Visayas Vintage Car Restoration Inc. The premises in Northampton must be enormous from the list of cars they have on their books.

The sole director, a Mr Biddulph, has four other directorships recorded, all companies with variations on "Vintage and Prestige", two of which have been dissolved. The address, 2 Rye Hill Court, appears in Google to be occupied by a company called Printed Products, but this unit doesn't have the same postcode. The actual postcode seems to bring up a transport company.

Unit 2, Rye Hill Court

Now, having said all of that, we all know that Google Maps can sometimes have the postcodes wrong, I'm sure the business and the gentleman concerned are perfectly legitimate and for m'learned friends nothing written above should be taken as any inference of competence or probity, or lack thereof. I'm just reporting what a little light Googling found.

Thank you LTP, top Googling!

I must say that the picture the gentleman has chosen to use does bring into question his judgement!

I was also somewhat surprised by the stock levels they seem to maintain, all very strange. I may give the mobile number listed a tinkle and see what's what.

They've been around a while and there was even a documentary about them relatively recently (although I can't remember the title). Originally a Rolls Royce specialist that has broadened out.

I'm always surprised by the stock levels so there's obviously some serious backing somewhere, or there's a lot of SOR stock. I'm also generally surprised by the pricing which often looks 'aspirational' albeit with the odd sensibly priced car sat amongst them. Stock includes some lovely kit but also some more variable (in quality or authenticity) items.

On the DB6 front, there have been quite a few that have gone through (mainly Bonhams) over the past week or so. Interestingly, they were all sub £200K.

Curiosity piqued, I once more contacted the good Dr Google and we looked at the given postcode, NN5 7UA. The results showed that there were 7 companies with that postcode, none of which was a prestige car dealer

again, the previous caveat about Google and postcodes still applies.

Should Mr Biddulph find this thread via the services of Dr Google (a fickle fellow he - he'll work for anyone without recognition or reward; other search engines are available) and wishes to correct anything I have posted, if he simply opens a free PH account (something no self-respecting prestige car dealer should be without) and correct me I shall happily amend or delete my posts.

The car in the picture is also on eBay and Gumtree - make of that what you may.

Thank you for the information Ettore. The DB6 market seems to have softened somewhat, though I'm not fully up to speed yet. Seems the Bonhams cars needed some work, but at those prices there would appear to be an opportunity to carry out some work to ones own specification.

It does seem odd, doesn't it.

I think I'll pass on this one, I do however love the colour. Having looked at the Bonhams auctions, I'd been keen to get a moderate restoration project, if there is such a thing!

In fact the more you dig, the more a web of linked companies opens up, some involving a Charess or Sharess Biddulph (depending on the company) as a director (the above-mentioned V & P Engineering 2021 Ltd being one).

Typo? Or Obfuscation? You are free to decide

Nothing implied, m'learned friends, just a search and report on findings.... yada yada....nothing to see or serve a writ on here

A shame that you missed a recent 'moderate' restoration project. Think it sold for £120,000.
The auctioneer, who has a pristine DB6 in his own car collection, has a favourite saying to encourage bidders, "A little weekend work will be required".

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

The best restorers charge £300,000 for a complete strip and rebuild.
Add the two figures together and it is often not a profitable exercise.

Jon. The thing is that restoring and owning cars like a DB6 is not necessarily (or even usually) a logical, numbers-driven decision.

A paraphrase of the yachting aphorism comes to mind. "Q. How do you make a small fortune from restoring and owning classic cars? A. Start with a large fortune...."

Bl**dy hell detective LTP, that's some diligent work at short notice smile I'm going to skip KPI on next purchase and ask LTP for the details! Pretty impressive what one can find on the internet when they know where to look! Good job!

Be interested in the outcome Duc D’Anville.

If you look at Richard’s blog over the years they do seem to have had a pretty big presence at various events, with some interesting machinery on display.

Given the sales pitch of highlighting the car you’ve come to see amongst other choice motors, it will be interesting to see if this is followed up on, or whether for some reason “it’s in a lock up in Staines”...

Again, no aspersions being cast and genuinely hope it’s all legit.
