Hi chaps! We are looking for a 'reliable' small/medium automatic for a run-around. Would like FSH and £3-4k.

My wife is keen on the A Class, old shape, but just wondering if ZX10R has some safe bets!

Dealership or private purchase, no preference.

Looking forward to responses!

Hope this is allowed

I'm thinking of getting rid of my 2008 Audi A3 1.8 TFSI Sportback S-tronic this summer, it could fit what you're after perfectly

Just done 64000 miles

I got it in 2019 at 54000 miles. It only had service history up to 25000 miles for some reason, then the one previous owner somehow decided they'd not service it again.

Since I have owned it, it has had two full services, plus it has had the timing chain cover changed as it was leaking oil (common fault on this engine). I have also replaced the rear wiper as it was playing up, again a common fault. I replaced the front tyres with decent Goodyear Eagle F1's too.

Bad bits - there is some water ingress into the drivers footwell when it rains heavy, I have just lived with it as it's not really bad. The flywheel sounds like it's on its way out, that would be £650 to replace.

edit: oh, also it's ULEZ compliant. It's not perfect, but you I doubt you'll find another one at this mileage for under £4k.

I'd probably avoid the 308 as it may be the clunky robotised manual.

The A3 that wants a flywheel .... i would never trust anything DSG but it may very well cost a little bit more than £650 to fit a flywheel.

My local indy VAG specialist (that sounds a bit wrong) Lodge Services, who are very highly regarded, diagnosed my car as needing a new DMF and said it'd be £650.

To be honest, I'll probably px it for around £2500 unless you want it, but I'll be wanting £3500 for the hassle of a private sale
