So I put the car in for the fitting of a pretty basic Sony head unit and after a couple of hours go back to find they can’t do it because the metal cage that comes with the new unit is just a few mm’s too narrow for the box the head units in a Tuscan sit within and so the metal cage keeps falling back into the tuscans audio box.

Is there anything that can be done? I’d have thought most any car audio fitter could get around this but apparently not.

I had the same issue. I took some thin (32 thou) aluminium sheet and bent 2 angles that sit behind the door release switches and the edge of the radio enclosure. Works a treat to just take up the slack.

I suspect they don't want to 'modify' your car in any way as that may increase liabilities.

More to the point, I suspect that they're completely unable to modify your car in any way because they have zero engineering skills and all they've been shown is how to open boxes and plug things in.
I've never known Halfrauds to fit a bulb or even a wiper blade correctly, so why on earth the young children that 'work' there can be reasonably expected to fit an audio is beyond me.

To be fair most people are probably thinking the same thing.

To be obvious:

1. They were selling the Unit I wanted

2. They were fitting to all sorts of vehicles whilst I was waiting from an 70's Rover to a Ford Truck

By comparison the wiring in the Tuscan is simple to adapt I'm told.
