Chaps, I’ve just bought some jeans which have hip and knee armour, the top of the knee armour sits about halfway down my knee cap when standing, but covers the knee when sitting, is this correct?
Thanks

It sounds roughly correct (a smidgen low, perhaps?). But what’s essential is that the knee armour can’t budge in a crash. If you can rotate it off your knee with only your hand, then there’s a good chance it won’t stay in place in an accident. Often, trousers need to be more snug than you realise (the same goes for jacket sleeves regarding elbow armour).

One of the compromises with Kevlar jeans is that it’s hard to find the right fit that keeps knee armour in place reliably. And it’s a significant benefit of well-fitting leathers: knee and elbow armour won’t budge in a crash.

Tricky isn't it! I always struggle with this with my jeans - trying to figure out how I'll hit the road and so where I need the armour. I tend to have mine so the top of pad is just across the top of my knee when standing. This gives them a comfortable bend when I'm on the bike and means they cover the knee when my leg is extended - as it probably will be if I fall off!

It can help to take the armour out of the jeans and see how it best fits on your knee. Then refit it into the jeans and adjust to achieve the same armour position when sitting on the bike.

Best test it out on the bike, as your knee angle can vary quite a bit compared to sitting. Some jeans are better than others in the way they mount the armour. Some brands of armour fit better. I have the D30 level 2 knee but use the level 1 hip armour as it just fits better.

I feel your pain OP. I have just made a mental note to only crash in the position that protects my knee best.

This was my thought, I’ll be fine if I don’t crash standing up!

I use Knox Flex-Lite knee armour under my riding jeans. The built-in pockets are just too loose.

Yep, I use forcefield strap on armour. If it moves around it might be OK to protect from the initial hit...maybe. but if you roll or slide, I'd rather know it was going to come with me in the same place

Same

I crashed my dirt bike at low speed whilst wearing my road trousers and the knee pads moved and my knee was badly bruised

I bought the forcefield graph / limb tubes - I tried the knox but they were too bulky
