I'm thinking about getting a 2014 MX5, it is from a main dealer so should be ok but I am a little concerned about the roof. I've never had one before and looking at the pictures it appears baggy compared to other cars. Can anyone advise me on this, is it ok? The dealer says it doesn't leak but it comes as is and they won't adjust it, it has a 1 year manufacturer warranty but I'm a bit nervous.

I have a 2007 NC and never noticed any bagginess around the rear corner like that one. I would check that out properly as I think something is wrong.

Two opposed viewpoints, typical smile

I can't easily check it as it is 250 miles away unfortunately. I may see if they will reserve it and I can go and take a look next weekend as my father lives only 10 miles away from it. Not seen him for a year so kill two birds with one stone.

Could the roof not be clamped at the front? It’s hard to tell for sure but in the sideways-on pics it looks like there’s a bit of a gap.

I found the advert and I'm agreeing with above. Some of the photos have the roof down and I I think they have just propped the hood back up to take the hood-up photos. In photo 8 you can see the gap at the front.

I think you are spot on now I look properly. This picture shows it even better.

I feel much better now and will try and get it bought. So excited, always wanted an MX5, even when I had a 911. Finally going to scratch the itch, many thanks for everyones help.

Just paid for it, collecting it next weekend. Well chuffed. I won't be able to jaunt around Europe in it until the kids grow up a bit but a bit of weekend trips will be amazing. Thanks for everyone who helped me make a decision.

Congratulations, looks great. Have a look at the MX5 Owners club. The organise lots of events and track days and there are plenty of local groups if you're into that sort of thing.

Good news, as stated above you are highly unlikely to regret it. Looks a nice example and sensibly priced.

I collected the car at the weekend, a bit nervous as I'd never driven one. I think it's great, although I can't quite believe how noisy it is with the roof up; it's a good job it isn't my only car.

I just went for a drive for no reason which is the first time I've done that in years. Top down in the sunshine, I was being quite enthusiastic down the country lanes. I looked at the speedo and I was only doing 55, perfect. Modern cars are just too good, in this I can feel like I'm going fast and having fun without risking my licence or being an antisocial idiot.

There are a couple of problems with it, the aircon doesn't seem to blow cold air and the drivers door doesn't lock/unlock from the remote, only via the physical key. I didn't notice this when I got it as the keys were flat and I only got the batteries delivered today. It's booked into the local Mazda dealer tomorrow to get things sorted hopefully.

One thing I do need to sort out is the stereo. It is a special edition so came with a factory double-din unit with navigation, bluetooth, phone, usb input but it is very dated. I need an Android auto one that is visible in sunshine, plus new speakers in the doors as it sounds a bit rubbish. It doesn't have the rear speakers or centre dash speaker of the Bose models. Something to look into next.

If the nav/stereo is the same as mine, you can adjust screen brightness to daylight mode and night mode. It's in the settings somewhere. But yes, it'sa pretty bad unit. It insists on playing all the songs on my USB stick in alphabetical order.
