Quite a few posts on here about Tiv owners worried their exhausts are a couple of db on the naughty side of 'acceptable'.
Have you [i]heard[/i] some of these scooters (or [b]scootahs[/b] to use the vernacular :silly:) that go past flat-out at about 29mph? :eek:
I heard some tonight that made my ears bleed! :ears:

Sccoters - no!
One of the many reasons that Italy's roads are what they are - like Beirut on a Saturday night. Lad nearby has just got one, we call him 'Easy Rider'. Does sound like a blue bottle trying to get out of a beer glass when it sets off. Hope his mates think him most uncool and don't get them themselves.

Middle lane of the M25. Doing 45mph TOPS!
Artics undertaking him and giving him some serious horn (Oooooo-eeeeer!!!).
Another Artic right up his chuff (as they do!) - about 3 feet away!
Cars screaming by (me included!) and gesturing (if that's the right phrase) for him to MOVE OVER!!!
He didn't budge one smegging inch!
This guy was either on drugs or had one almighty deathwish!

Agreed - horrible machines which make horrible noises and are, it would appear for the most part at least, ridden by chavs with no road sense.
However, at least one is able to enjoy the smell of partially-burned hydrocarbons as they buzz past - a smell sadly absent from today's over-catalysed society...

Let's not tar all scooters or riders with the same brush. I use a scooter to get to work because my TVR has almost bankrupted me. It's quicker through traffic and much less stress to leave in a dodgy area. I drive 10 miles each day and it only costs £3-4 per week in petrol.
The one I have is only 100cc and I have to have L-plates. However it will do 80mph and out-accelerate most Fiesta driving grannies.
Frankly I'm disgusted to think that should I have a crash (which may well not be my fault) that my fellow PHers would not come to my aid.

I've recently noticed a large number of kids on 'em round my way. Sadly they've no road sense at all. They are often to be seen without helmets, sometimes only in a pair of shorts (lads only, sadly 
), and often 2 up as well. I've called the non-emergency number for the police on occasion when they've been racing 3 abreast down my (very narrow) street, but to no avail.

We're only likely to not come to your aid if your 16 and you've just thrashed up and down the road 50 times for no purpose doing wheelies and generally being a nusance. If you get on it and drive to/from work thats fine. Right tool for the job.

Fair enough, there are some VERY stupid idiots on bikes but unfortunately it's difficult for some car drivers to distinguish between the 16 year old muppets and the rest of us. Every day, at least one moron sees the L plates on the bike and assumes I can only do 30mph, therefore they must overtake ASAP.
Let's continue the debate referring to the morons and not the scooter riders en mass.

If it was the chav next door to me, not only would I not go to his aid, if I thought I'd get away with it, I'd quite happily add to his injuries.
No, Ian I think most people realise we're not commenting on commuters & the like, it's the 16 year olds driving these things in what I can only describe as "packs" that I find annoying.

Yes, but you don't:
- pull wheelies down our road in the middle of the night
- ride up and down our road and the next one, over and over again on an evening or even on a nice weekend day making lots of noise and annoying everyone who wants to enjoy a bit of sun in their garden or even have their windows open to get some breeze
They ride by us, without tax, insurance or even a helmet at speeds in excess of 50 mph. Our road is not smooth tarmca but rough and uneven concrete (nightmare even the Tiv) and their not even old enough to be driving in the first place. But seriously these guys have been terrorising young and old alike round by us for absolutely ages - I think last night he almost hit one of the small little lads chasing a ball!
Any 'normal' road-user would always have our full support if we came across an accident/incident. We always stop, if it's safe to do so, to see what we can do to help. I can't count the number of times I've stopped (whatever they're driving) to help out or even just make a call to the Ambulance/Police - whatever they need to get them help really... so please don't think we're that we don't care, 'cos we do

Every kid in the area has one near me. Some scooters and some of those stupid mini motorbikes. Had one behind me that decided to pull up right beside me when turning at a junction. Was very tempted to pretend I hadn't seen him and just drive right over the t*sser. Helmets? Don't be silly.

Luckily the chap fell off last night and I heard broke his ankle. We were changing the speedo in the drive and heard the bang. Quick look to see what it was and carried on changing the speedo.
Ambulance came and took him away.
Hope the bikes a write off.
