Potentially an impossible 'where is the market going' question, but i am throwing this out to see if anyone can help align my thoughts....

I have a lovely 981 Boxster S, with a superb 'drivers spec' of bells and whistles.
I've had it a few years, and whilst it remains a superb car i'm starting to look at what i might get in the future to replace it.
Replacing a very good car is always going to be difficult, but i'm think a GT Type car may fit my ageing years, so i'm looking at a decent late-model V8 Vantage Roadster.

I still need to save up a few quid for the cost-to-change, so the question is should i sell the 981 now whilst the values are reasonably high, and save my pennies, or sit tight and swap when i have the funds available for the V8VR?

Tough question i know, but any thoughts gratefully received....

If the two cars are in a similar position then the market dropping shouldn't really have a major impact. Plucking numbers out of thin air let's say your car is £40k and the GT you want is £60k and so you're needing to find £20k to upgrade, if the market drops 10% then your car is then worth £36k and your GT would be £54k, you now only need to find £18k. If the market was to go up 10% you'd lose out more by selling now i.e. Sell now for £40k, market goes up 10% and the GT is now £66k, you need to find £26k - If you kept the car and sold when the market was up 10% then you sell for £44k, GT is £66k and you need to find £22k.

The above obviously assumes that the impact is across the market of the two cars you're interested in and I'm not sure how closely movement of the two cars correlates so it may be nonsense. Having said that, also consider that if you sell your fun car and then have to wait 3/6/9months to buy, you're going without that fun car for a good period of time. I'm not sure that would interest me in the slightest.

Hi J1990
Well, that post was a big chunk of salient common sense. I've obviously been over-thinking this.
Thanks!
