Arrests have been made in Yorkshire after the identity of the suspected London bus bomber led police to make raids in Leeds and Luton.
Security sources told the BBC the bus bomb suspect died in the blast but it is unclear if it was a suicide bombing.

In Leeds a controlled explosion was carried out to gain access to a house, as part of a search of six premises.

Police have exploded a car in Luton which they believe may be connected to the attacks that killed 52.

An unoccupied house in the Burley area of Leeds was one of six raided in Leeds after the attacks.

Security sources say the bomber of the No 30 bus died in Thursday's blast, BBC correspondent Danny Shaw has said.

Police in Leeds are looking for explosives and have already seized some material.

Up to 600 people have been evacuated from the area as part of the operation.

Police cleared people from homes as well as a mosque, a health centre and an old people's home.

Parts of the Beeston area of Leeds has been cordoned off, as well as a street in Dewsbury near the city.

Inspector Miles Himsworth said the operation was being led by the Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorist officers with the support of West Yorkshire Police and the Army Bomb Disposal Unit.

He said the house at which the controlled explosion took place officers were searching for explosives and other material.

He said that may include computers, and a "careful and meticulous search" would be carried out.

Not implying anything old chap, it could mean they were born in The USA and hold British passports for instance. A news website or TV channel using the blanket term "British" is a bit pointless until we know all of the details.

With somewhat ironic timing, the government has just pushed its bill through the commons banning incitement to religious hatred.

Many commentators fear that it will mean you cannot criticize religion or the priests, or Imans, rather of that religion.

Since it seems that (very sadly) the bombers were British born, I think we should be free to criticise allot of the nut jobs who are preaching in this country.

if they are suicide bombers they will not have worked alone, whoever put them up to this, or knew about it bears as much responsibility as they do.

I hope they're dealt with rather more effectively than was the case with Captain Hook.

What? So if a bomb kills hundreds of people in the name of a religion we have to bite our lips for fear of being arrested or offending someone. I think it's fair to point the finger at certain religions (almost any in fact) so long as you mention that it is the fanatical end of the spectrum presenting a problem.

No - you point the finger at people who use their religious beliefs as an excuse for carrying out heinous crimes against others. It's the person whose at fault, not the religion.

Fair point. Though these guys don't get their ideas out of nowhere - it may be due to nutters holding prominent positions within the religious infrastructure in certain areas. Their influence can be enormous.

But you're right, in very few cases is the religion at fault.

I might be missing something here but can’t actually see where it says that these people were White, Black, Asian, Christians or Muslims etc, just that they were British.

British people are not historically known for deliberately blowing themselves up on packed commuter trains or buses.

Because its more usefull to regard them as terrorists, their ethnicity and religion is irrelevant.

No I would say that religion (all rather than a specific one) is at fault and its preying on those that are easily led.

Hmmmmm, Is that so then?

Religion == Psychosis

I'll con myself into believing in an non-existant deity because it answers all my questions and lends purpose to my life. Oh, and by the way, all you others that aren't in my club should burn in hell!

Pah!!!!

Just watching the coverage and listening to the Police statements now. Apart from dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's the Police appear to have nailed them, even though they are probably dead. I cant imagine them jumping the gun over this.

Fantastic job, well done to our Police and security services.

I wonder how many they have nailed 'before' the event? I guess we will never know.
