E10 fuel

So, with the introduction of E10 fuel looming, can Vipers run on this without problems? I’m assuming the premium fuels (Vpower etc) will remain E5 for the foreseeable?

Here's my two penneth for what its worth. As I understand it E10 is replacing the standard grade fuel which many of us don’t use, unless it’s for pottering around. I'm guessing that occasional use shouldn’t be a problem for those that drive in a less spirited manner or if you're running low and desperate for a top up. E5 higher octane super grade will remain available at many petrol stations including rural locations, I would imagine that most of us use E5 and have a favourite tipple such as Shell V-Power which will be available for the foreseeable future.

I have never used any of the expensive fuels in my car unless by mistake! The Viper Gen 2 Viper was designed to run on American 91 octane, So my reasoning is UK 95 fuel is just fine. I'm just coming up to 100k mileage in my car and have never had an issue with fuel, I usually fill up at Supermarket stations.

Personally I don't know jack Sh--t about the new fuels but I'm sure there will likely be a substute additive you can chuck in it from time to time.

UK and US octane ratings are not the same.

In Europe, the octane rating on the pump is the RON figure. America uses the average of the RON and the MON figures. Thus, 97 octane “super unleaded” in Britain is roughly equivalent to 91 octane premium in the United States.

Well I have over 50,000 miles on the cheap stuff with no issues

It is the effect of the extra ethanol on the fuel lines that is the issue.

Millers Oils are selling a bottle of EPS ethanol protection fuel treatment, ten quid a bottle, the bottle treats around 13 US gallons.

Enough to treat 500 litres of fuel and there is a club discount on top of this, well there is for the Corvette Club not sure about Viper Club.

I remember reading a EVO magazine a good decade ago, they ran x2 brand new identical BMW’s for 100,000 miles one on unleaded, the other on super leaded

Then they had a look inside both engines, the car running super unleaded was spotless, and looked like new, the other was blackened and a bit grubby
