Looking for a not too radical, fast car, help me decide!
Discussion
With work going well the last few years i have decided to take a lump out of the company pot and treat myself to a sports car/coupe, but nothing too radical or manic or indeed, overly expensive. Lambos and Ferraris are non starters sadly.
I'm thinking a 2-4 year old Nissan GTR, Audi R8 Plus or Porsche 991 turbo. All would seem relatively comfortable and practical.
There are so many swings and roundabouts though!
The Audi has 600 bhp and the others around 30 bhp less as i understand it. The Nissan is 150 kgs heavier than the German duo. That's quite a chunk of extra weight, actually. 2 average sized men! Then again the Nissan and Porsche will readily produce a lot more power with simple tuning, whereas the N/A Audi won't have much more to offer without monumental expense. I'm loving the sound of that high revving Audi V10, the turbo cars never sound as good.
Which (assuming you like these sorts of cars) would get your wallet emptying? I have spent a while on Autotrader the last few days and a big range of these cars are in budget and immaculate. Ready to rock and roll in the nicer weather!
Audi, Nissan or Porsche (IF you were in this market)?

The GT-R often gets over looked but it's very much a drivers car & in my top ten of steers so out of the three it would be the Nissan, I'd add a Y Pipe & map.

Now the other two are a fair jump up in price (if you want a four year old or newer example) compared to the GT-R if it has to be an R8 I'd look for an RWS model:

& you take another price hike again for the Turbo S which will give you a great daily with supercar performance

Although I'd be tempted to get a 992 4S & then speak to Litchfield about a map:

Now I have two leftfield picks.
Honda NSX I'v driven a few of these & they're impressive, yes the interior could feel a bit more special but the has impressed me everytime I've driven one & I'd say test drive one as for me it's more impressive than the R8 & I can see these steadying off.

C7 Grand Sport Competition a cracking steer with a great N/A engine, personally I prefer a coupe but the convertible might work for you:

If LHD is okay for you the the ZL1 Camaro is another great steer.

Some great examples of cars listed above, thanks very much for that. It does prove that we are spoiled for choice in this sector, i'd actually like one of each!
The more i think about it the more i like the idea of the R8 V10 which may not be the best looking sports car but that N/A 5.2 10 lunger simply sings and the car seems quite practical as well.
The hunt, after a lot of heavy heart time, begins now for the Audi. I'd like a blue or white Audi R8 Plus with it's plentiful 602 bhp.
Roll on good weather!

Have you considered an Evora? It may not be in the same league as your current short-list, but for me it's a better "Sports Car", better handling, lighter and of course rarer, which is half of the appeal (for me anyway). Plus they look bloody lovely, for your budget you could get a very "Gucci" one.
Having driven exactly none of these, my view can only be seen as an emotive one.
911 and GTR's have never interested me in the slightest. Too cold and clinical, I like a bit of character or an underdog.
R8 V10 Spyder is the one out of the 3 you mention that I would choose. NA engine is all about the character and goosebumps. If I was in this market I would not be looking at the other two.
I would however also be looking at:
A DB11 or a Vantage V12 roaster.....some kind of Aston because well it is a V12 Aston.
The NSX as it looks wonderful, full of tech, fast, reliable and because it is not a 911 or common
Maserati Grad cabrio........It has a Ferrari engine and as james may would say....has the fizz.
A BMW i8 roadster. I realise this is a very left field option with does have that elephant in the room of only. a1.5 3 pot.......but it is stunning and quite the revolutionary car. Suddenly the Audi looks like a dinosaur, but perhaps you want to own a bit of high water automotive history before it is too late.
If it was a keeper R8, if it was something for 2-5Y the NSX or i8.

Too cramped/small and not practical enough for me. I had an Exige and it really wasn't me whatsoever. I like the thought of 550+ bhp too. Don't really want a 3.5.I test drove an R8 V10 (std tune) today and it was great in every way. Easy to drive, had way better outward vision than i had imagined, the ride was better than i expected on 20 inch wheels and i can only guess how good the ''Plus'' version will be when i find one. It needed quite a few revs to feel really quick but then currently owning another car with unholy oomph from 2,500 rpm has re-set what i always thought was ''quick''. Most cars feel ordinary, performance-wise nowadays.
It's deffo going to be a 602 bhp ''Plus'', but with a sports exhaust and de-cat to get the very best possible sound and bhp from the high revving V10 with natural aspiration. An Audi tuning specialist said 650 bhp is easy with a sports exhaust, de-cat and some electronic jiggery pokery. That sounds quite nice in a fairly light car.
Search time!
