Selling a car that’s not yours - tips?

As the designated car man of the family, I have been assigned to sell my sister-in-laws Mercedes E class estate as she doesn’t know where to start when it comes to selling, and doesn’t really fancy strangers turning up on her doorstep.

I plan to include in the advert ‘sold on behalf of a family member’ - all the paperwork is in her name, history is good - any other suggestions or tips for selling on behalf of someone else?

can you sell it from her address but deal with the sale?

Some may be put off and think your a trader if v5 not in your name and selling from a different address

The simple way is to write the advert as if you were selling it yourself, when fielding calls, when someone comes across as serious explain you're selling on behalf of your SIL, & explain the car will be viewed & test drove from her home with her present but all questions/negotiations will be done through you.

This is exactly what I did to help a (female) family friend, worked well. I attended the viewings to answer any questions and left the final negotiations to the actual owner and the would be buyer.

In fact I'd go so far as to say it was an enjoyable challenge. Seller made more than wbac offerd and buyer saved on a dealer price for a clean car.

I've done this a few times for elderly relatives, I agree a figure I'll achieve in advance.
I just explain what, why and where from from the initial contact.

I've done it for my dad a few times but I take the car and all paperwork from him and deal with it all
V5 change completed online when the money is exchanged, no real issues to speak of just mention it in the advert.

Thanks for all the tips. Listed the car today on a couple of facebay sites and quite clear in the description that it’s been sold on behalf of a family member.
Within 20mins I got the first of the “what’s your best price bruv” email followed by a few more offering me cash today for sure, definitely, but way, under the asking price.
