If it's just a head unit and 4 speakers, I'd do it myself personally. Much cheaper and not too difficult. The hardest part is working out how to take the old speakers out without ruining your interior. I've installed head units, amps and speakers in loads of cars.
Regarding a setup, what are you looking for? Loud? Bassy? or just a better sound than the OEM stuff?
A simple setup would be something like an Alpine MP3/CD head unit driving 4 full range speakers (front and rear). You could use 6x9s in the back, but personally I don't like having more noise from the back. The ideal setup is one where the music sounds like it's playing from just in-front of the bonnet.
Next step up, would be to add an amplifier to drive a set of components (where the tweeter is separate to the mid range speaker) in the front (much better sound!).
I would go with the Alpine stuff as it's pretty good for the money
Also, check out www.caraudiodirect.com for ICE. Used them many times in the past and have always been fast and cheaper than most places.

I've got a guy that does any/all audio work on my cars. I wouldn't trust anybody or any other company with them.
He used to work for Sextons but got fed up with them charging what they wanted and ten asking him to do the job in half of the time.
Very discrete chap and really high quality, no compromise workmanship.
