Hi Folks,

Maybe I am being dumb but I can't seem to work out what this report actually means in terms of brake pad life

N/S and O/S I understand which denotes which side of the vehicle.

If the N/S pad thickness is 8mm and the O/S is 3mm (they should be 8mm new), they are saying that I have 5mm used across both pads?
Something does not stack up to me as I would expect pads on the same axle to wear at the same rate (unless they have been changed recently).

Am I going mad or are you interpreting it the same way I am?
Note: This is for a car I have purchased and not taken delivery of just yet (I did not do the service).

A 100% spot on setup should wear fairly evenly per axle.

Problems could cause uneven wear....so you cannot assume both will wear evenly. If they are not, then it needs investigated why. Could be corroded disc, sticky pad/caliper etc etc or some other issue.
And even both pads on the same disc, will not always wear the same amount, often the inner pad wears more, and that face of the disc corrodes more.

Given that the front and rear numbers both add up to the 'new' thickness, I think the most likely explanation is that the form was filled in by an idiot who didn't know what numbers were supposed to go where.

I think they’ve ballsed up filling this in, it is actually difficult to make out what they mean.

I suspect they are saying the fronts have 3mm left the rears have 2mm left. Now if that is just 2mm of pad left then I would have expected them to tell you they need changing rather than “getting low” . If you have any sort of wear sensor or aubible guide I would expect that to have activated at 2mm.

What they might mean is 3mm/2mm left of usable pad before sensors are likely to activate? To be honest even the 7mm seems low for a new pad so I don’t really know what they are saying.

To me that says the OS rear caliper is sticking, hence the 2mm thickness

Has someone changed pads on only one side of the car? Having such a huge discrepancy on both front and rear wheels on one side is very unusual.
