Hey guys,

So my older brother was driving his BMW E92 M3 when he heard this piece of metal underneath the car scraping on the motorway, which he then had to tear off after. He suspects it came loose after going a little fast over a speedbump. Just wondering if he should get it looked at quickly or not? Will it need replacing? Please let us know - it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Have you got any other photos, I'm very familiar with the front
3 piece under bumper section, but I don't think that's it.

Difficult to see from that picture.

There is an aluminium under-tray/ plate which is bolted under the front subframe, and is there to stiffen up the front of the car.

If that had been semi-ripped off it would have made a hell of a noise/bump.

It probably costs less than the fiendishly expensive felt pieces though....

Hi, yes I do. Please see link below. My brother just confirmed the piece was plastic, not metal. This part of the plastic (not whole piece) and came from the front of car.

Does this piece ring a bell? Please note it's only part of the piece. All plastic, not metal.

Again really hard to tell because it's a fragment. But if it's from the front of the car underneath it's likely part of the three piece under tray. If you want to remove it take the front wheels off and jack up the car, you should see part 20 in this diagram attached to two corner sections (23 & 24).

Apparently the undertray actually diverts aiir to the cooling system.

Thanks a lot. Will look to get it replaced v soon. Guessing a garage that works on M3 will be best...
