This Sport Evo selling for £100k plus commission seems pretty cheap, no?

Nice as it is, it's not a Sport Evo, so will be in a different price bracket.

E30 M3s are overpriced IMO. You can have a nice E30 325i and the E30 M3 SE at over £100k wont be many multiples more fun.

Can anyone offer a rationale as to why these cars are so expensive? I get that something is worth what people are willing to pay, but why are people willing to pay so much for these in particular?

Sure but they’re nothing like as good. The M3 is incredibly well balanced and has an extraordinary engine and agility. The 325 is a nice old bus but not a car that is rewarding to drive.

I beg to differ. I had a 325i Sport for 10 years and with proper maintenace they drive very well and better and more involving than most modern BMWs. Plus with their torque they are very tail happy and have the correct number of cylinders for a BMW and very smooth too.

The Sport Evolution didnt even win the championship BMW lost to mercedes.

The E30 M3 wont be 5 times the fun of E30 325i IMO.

I’ve had both (and an E46 M3) and there’s no comparison in my opinion. The M3 looks, drives and feels way more special. They grow on you in a way that you won’t get from a few hours on a test drive.

I’ve had a 325i for 20 years. I love it but it is absolutely nothing like the E30 M3 that I ran alongside it for many years.

I sold my first E30 M3, went through two porches (964/993) then Csl and sold them and went back to E30 M3. Regarding 325 sports, yes they are great fun to own and drive, but not comparable to an M3. Still to this day the most successful touring car ever.

I bought my H Reg M3 (215 bhp car) in around 2000 for £10k and struggled to move it on after dailying it for 2 years.

Traded in against an Impreza P1. And got £8k.

Only normal service costs. So I thought pretty cheap motoring for 2 years. Was even good on fuel.

At the time of buying it they had a Sport Evo 2.5 for £13k but I could only afford the £10k.

I tell people now how much they are worth. I genuinely think they think I am making it up.

But I keep telling myself had I not sold it I never would have had the 10 or so special cars since &/or I would be afraid to use it now. I actually owned it at the best time when I could put miles on without worrying about value.

I do a similar story on my wifes Z3M Coupe..... which tripled in the 2 years after selling.

Likewise. Bought mine for £8k and stupidly p/x’ed it fir a Caterham that was a pile of junk by comparison. Wish I’d kept it. Like a 911 it doesn’t do one thing perfectly above all else but it’s the way the whole package comes together - steering, engine, compliant chassis, balance, etc

Got my first one from Holland when I was working out there in 2000 for £4,5k, traded up to a Sport Evo for £10k with Hartge suspension, albeit that turned out to be a Cat D rebuild (astonishingly well done) so I gave it back - not before the engine dropped a valve and was rebuilt and run in, OMG what an engine - do we talk about Nigel Moseley on here? Sadly he'd already sold on my original one or I would have that back in a flash.

Either way I should have kept the Sport Evo...

I bought my Sport Evo in Aug/Sept 2004 for £17k. Luckily I still have it.
