I want to buy a pair of short boots which will be used for a short moto ride within London, followed by hours of walking around. i.e. they are really boots for walking in, which offer some ankle-toe protection for on the bike on the way to going walking. I'll never or almost never use them over 40mph.

I've never owned non-waterproof boots before. If I get a non-waterproof boot, are there any comfort advantages?

They come in two general types:
Normal looking boots which have bike stuff on them, like this:
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...

Or, short versions of bike boots, like this:
https://jsaccessories.co.uk/product/akito-scout-bo...

These two are waterproof, there are others which are non-waterproof.

I have a pair of the original all weather Hoggs. Had them close on 20 years, maybe more. Been used in all weathers and for long walks, in fact I still.use them even though I sold my last bike 3 years ago. Not cheap but, given how long they've lasted, super good values

I love my TCX X Rap so much I bought 2 pairs, the canp waterproof ones are the favourite

They are absolutely fine to walk in, I wear them when I have several miles to walk, no problem, and proper4 seasons performance, cool in Summer, warm in Winter and with decent protection

My go to for bike and walking or work are a pair of Magnum HiTecs.

Only been through 2 pairs in 30 years. Need a third now only as the sole is worn.

Toe protection, not steel, and high lace up leather and cordura (I think) black combat boots.

Seem to keep out the rain too.

Originally saw Keanu Reeves wear them in Speed, so that ages me.

They still make the original which I'd buy again and only around £60.

ETA

Yep! They are still available. Magnum Classic.

£57.99

I've used them for hiking too.

^ On lace up boots without a velcro tab over them, I'm wary of them in case the lace comes undone while riding and gets caught in a moving part. Any problems with this?

I've been riding since 1978 and now you've given me something else to worry about.

The Magnums have enough lace to do a decent double knot.

It's a compromise as they are far better, than any hybrid bike boot I've ever used, for walking as they are not as stiff.

But then I used to ride my GPZ900R in a nylon bomber jacket, ripped jeans and trainers hehe

It was the 80s.

I prefer my boots a bit taller, dont like draughty ankles. Been wearing some Alpinestars for a few years now, they are now my fave boots . As comfy as a pair of trainers to walk about in, waterproof, and good protection. Under a pair of jeans look the same as "regular" boots. Zip up on the inside. On sale at the moment:

TCX short boots are great. They take a while to break-in, but are superb crossing cities

Have a pair of these too. Totally agree with the comments, highly recommended.

I've been hearing very good things about the TCX Street 3 Waterproof boots. They do make a more ventilated boot if that is what you are after, but I thought have a waterproof boot makes more sense to me living in the UK.

Had a pair of TCX X-Blend for over 5 years now. Still looking great, just needed to get some better laces.

I bought the desert version of these a couple of years back. A bit chunky, but fine for walking around & OK on bike.
If I bought them again, I would probably get the black version, as the desert ones attract road dirt/grease etc & are not easy to clean....

Wore TCX X-Blend as my 'office boot' a while back. Had to replace the laces and insoles but they remained 100% waterproof for 3 years and looked rather rough anyway by the time the toes started letting puddles in.

3 years sounds premature for a bike boot but bearing in mind these were worn all day in between commutes and for many weekend rides, I thought that was decent.

I've had some Alpinestar District waterproof boots which have been fine. I've actually used them around the house to provide more support as I currently have a stress fracture in my foot. They are CE approved and seem to do the trick.

I think the current version of them is the Newland: https://www.helmetcity.co.uk/alpinestars-newland-g...

Most of these sort of boots are probably moire bike than walking though so if you're doing lots of miles off the bike you might want to look at something with a decent sole as I can't see the sole on these lasting long otherwise.

I keep 2 pairs of boots.

Just going for a ride, I have some alpinestars boots, great for riding but not walking around.

going somewhere where I'll spend hours walking round I wear Sidi Gas boots, they're pretty much trainers and as such offer almost no extra protection but are supremely comfortable. The wife bought me them as a gift, I wouldn't buy them again as I'd like a toe box and reinforcemernt for gearchange.

Looking at J&S, I always liked the RST stunt as a low boot and they seem a bargain at £65
