Jaguar XJ prices

I owned a 2000 XJR for 2 years between 2010 and 2012. It was in nice condition overall and apart from a water pump, tyres and a few coils didn't cost a lot to run (bar fuel).

My distance to work changed which then made the fuel costs unviable.

Car was bought for £5750 and sold for £3800.

My commute again is quite reasonable and so I occasionally browse the usual places.

The price of X350 XJ for sale generally strikes me as crazy. 2004 or 2005 V8 models (non XJR) seem to be advertised anywhere between £6k to £9k.

Are my expectations unrealistic? These are 16 year old cars or am I looking in the wrong places?

Covid has really boosted car prices....unless you really need the car now I would hold off until after the first major unlock - people will be out and about with more money to spend on things other than cars - maybe taking some heat out of the market. Also maybe more cars will be listed making things more competitive between sellers? Having said all that it could be that the XJ line is now supposedly becoming an EV only proposition and the old V8's are now something particularly special and will keep appreciating?!

Aye, but then you would have to drive an Audi, not a beautiful Jaguar.

I bought a '98 XJ8 back in 2019 for £840, full history and 96k miles. There's still cheap ones out there, you just need to look in the right place for them and be quick, i'm on a few Jag groups on FB and there's occasionally something good that pops up.

I have noticed an increase in prices over the past year, even stuff that's rotten seem to be fetching upwards of £1000. I'm looking rid of mine for another motorbike as I lost my job a while ago and can't afford to run a V8 jag as my only car anymore haha.

If the cars in question are in good condition and have suitable services history/invoices, to be honest I don't think those prices are unreasonable.

A large, handsome, comfortable V8 saloon - how much do you want to pay? It's still a lot of car for your money.

I think your post sums up pretty well why he wants a Jaguar and not an Audi ;-)

The X350 and its facelifted X358 seem destined to be a classic, having the historic XJ shape but with an aluminium unibody.

Early X351s are already dipping below late X358s.
