Amber alerts...

Talking to a contact in the nuclear industry this AM; apparently all the UK nuke sites are on Amber alert. Non-essential personnel are being shipped out; no contractors allowed in; and the entire workforce at (at least) one plant was searched...

Not sure but i know that at our local RAF camp the alert status has gone to Bikini Black Special, ie no taxis on site, perimeter patrols and more vehicle searching (mirrors under the car etc) taking place.

I'd imagine that the large civil service outposts (longbenton, lytham, st leonards etc) will be on amber, their standard setting is black special

All government buildings are now on Amber rather than Black Special. Mostly means I have to wear my pass round the building now...

so it's still the same as 2000 when I was there then

it's hilarious the way the security guards get arsey with you suddenly one day because this time when you flash your barclaycard at them instead of your pass they get bollocked because the alerts been stepped up to amber overnight

and it's even funnier when they have to get the mirrors out to check for bombs and they haven't a clue how to do it!

I can confirm that.

Non-essential staff were turned away from Sellafield on thursday / friday, and Military bases are on Black Special, i'm working on one at the moment and fully expected to be removed from site on thursday, but it didn't happen.

It's not really that big a deal it used to happen regulary in the good old days when our terrorists used to have the decency to phone up before blowing you up and wore donkey jackets and wellie boots instead of beards and yasmacks

Has not affected us that much down here in the deep south, although security are checking our car passes a bit more carefully.
