ok here's one for you

have you ever been pulled over the the police when they OBVIOUSLY think you've stolen that car rather than you being the actual owner?

i've been pulled 4 times in the past 3 years - never when i was in my civic or A3 - and heaven forbid me to wear a base ball cap in the sunny weather - hell that's not even worth the hassle!!! lol

I guess the younger you look the more chance you have of being pulled - I'm 32 so getting on a bit! The issue with a car like the Lotus is that it's akin to having a great big sign saying "I break the speed limit" because let's face it, that's what the car is designed to do and it does it particularly well - not even slowing much for the corners! I always feel guilty when a Police car is parked up nearby - feel like I should confess! It’s strange that there’s absolutely no guilt whatsoever when I'm actually cruising around the Norfolk twists at 90mph – safe of course, I know every junction etc…

Yup Had two coppers walk past the other days whilst in traffic. One points and goes: 'You've got no front plate'. And just carried on walking...

I'm 25 and I'm (probably) the youngest Elise owner in NZ... I've not had any trouble yet... but we'll see... it's early days yet.....there's a LOT of anti-boyracer sentiment in NZ at the moment... thankfully Elises aren't typical boyracer cars

Never had a problem in 5 years doing 70K in 3 Elises. I think its down to the way people drive, or whether they have an honest face.

NB - I got my first Elise, brand spankers, at 24.

A few years back in my CRX (del sol) I was being pulled over 3-4 times a week. Turns out some moron in the DVLA hand put on the details "Blue Honda MOTORBIKE". After the third 7 day wonder I got sarcastic after the 6th I was down to bloody rude. After some dimwit WPC asked me how to spell C.R.X. I was at my wits end and was almost arrested for explaining which one of her partners orifice's she could stick her 7day wonder.

I then settled in for a couple of weeks of playing snap. Ill see your 7 day wonder and raise you 6 more.

Questions like "Whose time are you really wasting by giving me another one?" and "Havent you got an actual crime to stop?" did not go down well and when I got really pi$$ed off, statements like "you are the worst excuse for a traffic warden I have met in the last 8 producers" were taken in the spirit I intended.

I then tried reasoning. You have a database that tells you who has tax...
Yes..
You have a database that tells you who has an MOT?...
Yes...
So if I have Tax and MOT it logically follows that I have insurance...
Sort of...
So why are you wasting my time?

Lead Balloon...

It took about 15 calls to the DVLA to correct the problem.

Touching wood, I've never been pulled by the old bill, and I was 23 when I bought my S2.

I even go the extra mile and wear my shorts a baseball cap backwards and play my music very VERY LOUD.

I have got a funny story though when I used to own my CooperS, I was parked up in MC D's waiting for one of there super intelligent staff to bring across my burger, when a woman copper pulled up and told me to turn my front fog lights off.

I Very smugly shouted back to her there not on, there my side lights.

She then shouted Look mate I’m tired and unless you want a ticket I suggest you stop messing around and turn them off.

I replied look Love (being as patronizing as possible) there my side lights! Then I turned my fog lights and driving lights on, and shouted there my FCUKING Fog lights!!!!

It was the funniest thing ever, the bloke who was sitting next to her pi55ed him self. Most normal people would of stopped there and drove off with there tails between their legs. But this one couldn't let me get one over on her.

She then went on about how I must have modified my side lights because most cars have them built into the head light cluster. I then told her that if she has a problem to call BMW and tell them that there selling illegal cars.

Very red faced she drove off and parked up by the entrance and followed me all the way home.

Not really a pull, but funny anyway..
Driving in heavy traffic along western bypass with friends in car. Volvo T5 alongside, heavily armed coppers staring into car being very intimidating. Mate in back of my car notices coppers jumper hanging out of their door.. Winds window down and shouts couple of times "pullover", copper looking very angry and winds his windows down ready for confrontation and shouts "what", mate replies your "Your pullover" , all coppers mates pi$$ themselves...

Frank Skinner would have been proud of that one.

I can understand the 'being pulled over thing' as it must be a real pain in the arse, and insulting to top it off, but the only related incident that has happened to me left me with a grin on my face.

I'm 22 and a student, and was getting in to my car after a long day of doing not alot in class, when i could see an on foot officer glance over and immediately get on his radio, whilst staring intensely. Insulting, but at the end of the day, i hope i changed his biased and old fashioned view on young drivers. (and also drivers with caps)

i used to drive a transit van when i was in my early twenties. it was so rusty that in a couple of places you could see through the van to the other side. never got pulled up in it. then bought a better van and a two year old jag. got pulled up practically everytime i went out in the jag.
then bought a business in stoke on trent but still lived in birmingham. i was pulled 25 - 30 times on the m6 ( doxey ) and taken to the weighbridge. is that a record? i was only overladen once and it never amounted to anything

Although I had no probs in the Lotus, I used to drive a van delivering newspapers to shops at between 0400 and 0600. Got pulled loads of times. This was obviously before I was in the Police. Never a problem, quick word, glance in the back of the van, the occassional PNC check. Always polite and professional.

Personally I think its reassuring. I know some might say I'm biased, but I firmly belive in the saying that not all drivers are criminals but virtually all criminals are drivers.

I got followed today for about 10 miles, I think they get even more suspicious when you go dead on the speed limit, but what are you supposed to do.

Luckily (or not) there was a crash further up the road that he had to pull over for... Cue 8,250 rpm!

I used to drive a mark 1 XR2 in my early twenties and during one Christmas week, got pulled over 5 times in 7 days. Each time I was issued with a 7 day wonder. Even after I had showed them the other ones still sitting on my passenger seat they still issued me with the last 3.
On that 7th day I took the 1st one in and got them to fill out all of their paper work and left. 5mins later I returned with the 2nd and then 5mins with the 3rd.
After the 3rd the PC asked how many more I had, and could he have all of them in one go. My smug response was "nope, you can have them one at a time, if I had to spend 10mins by the side of the road each time I got one of these, you can spend 5 mins for each one and see how great you feel at the end of it"

He wasnt very happy with it and a Sergent in the background came over and complained about my attitude, so when I explained about the last 4 being issued even though they knew I already had the others, he actually seemed to understand my frustration. He even went as far as to say he would look into it. Funnily enough I was never pulled over again in my home town.

What series is this? Was this a TV show shown in Britain?

We've not got nearly as many SCameras as you lot over there do, but man are the laws nasty over here... there's NO discretion, the officers just book you if you're doing over the limit, plain and simple.... I've been VERY lucky and never had a ticket... but it's common for UK expats that move over here to rack up a number of points on their licence pretty quickly as they find out that our BiB over here aren't quite so liberal or open to "discretion" that your boys seem to be.... over here there's no real argument that our laws are for road safety... coppers just sit on passing lanes and stuff waiting for their next paycheque to drive by.... to be fair though it's not the coppers' fault.... just the stupid mandate that they're made to enforce.

Seems to be made In NZ for your own Market "Traffic Cops"? Had to laugh when a car stuffed into somebodies garage turned out to be a Heart attack victim, the disappointment in their voices They don't appear to be very good at anything beyond handing out tickets. Still the licence system out there seems a little odd!
