Not my area of knowledge.

My brother is looking for a replacement for his now kaput c180k Merc. Wants a people carrier. 2 mental kids (so wear well), easy life wanted (reliable / cheap to repair), wife friendly car. I want it to be nippy for when i want to borrow a spacey ship 😎.

SMAX on his radar. The 2t / 2.5s look nippy to me. Any good?

Any others that people can recommend.

Cheers

Paul

I can see you've only been on here for 183 months, so you'll be excused for not realising that the mods will very quickly move this post away to the "Car Buying" section of the forum.

Not sure what they're like to drive, or like as a car, but The Zafira VXR could be fun, with 237hp

The new shape Zafira Tourer is in budget if you set aside your own nippy requirements.

But it’s ALL about me 😎 (it being nippy).

Thanks for ideas.....keep them coming.

With regards to the S-Max any views on 2T vs 2.5T?

I've a feeling the 2.0 t are all autos and there's something about them not being great gearboxes

The 2.5 is the Volvo derived t5 engine and if regularly serviced will last ages and has a fair but of power

The S Max is the pick, getting a 2.0T/2.5T with sensible miles on it will be the harder part the 2.5 is the one to go for because of the extra torque that makes moving the S Max about a little less hard work.

The 2.0T is still a good choice just check to see if the gearbox has been serviced recently because like all DSG boxes they're finicky about their oil, if it hasn't been done budget around £300 to get this done:

Or there's the slightly smaller Zafira GSI:
