Volvo XC90 T8 or XC60 T6/T8

We've been down to one car for the majority of the lockdown which has worked out pretty well.
We've leased our main car for a number of years which has worked for us, although I'd consider second hand. If I'd have asked myself just over 12 months ago what my next car would have been it would have been the XC90. In my own head a plug in hybrid makes sense the majority of our trips are 3-10 miles, run on electric for those charge up at home/work. Under normal times we'll do a 600 mile round trip up to Scotland 2 or 3 times a year, so something spacious, comfortable with decent luggage space is also needed. We have 2 kids 5 and 2 so don't need the 7 seats the XC90 gives, which also seems like a bit piece of metal for the school run and commute.
This has got me looking at the XC60 which could be a good compromise? How do they compare? They seem to be based on the same platform-going to arrange a look, (drive an XC90 and had a V90) I think the Q4 deals will expire in the next couple of days though.
My third option is not to bother at all, WFH is probably going to a perm fixture which has made me reevaluate the need for a medium to large family car that isn't required for 95% of the driving we do and e.g. just rent a car for a week or whatever when we need to......

Not sure what your other car is so I guess it depends but a few thoughts below. If you desperately need an ocassional 2nd car - I'd stay cheap and save the money.
The spec on the new XC60s are surprinsingly poor. Even on a T6 R-design hybrid you're looking at manual seats with no memory, no keyless entry and no adaptive cruise / steering. All standard on an XC90 or V90. A T8 will usually be highly optioned though
Depends why you are considering the plug in electric, but the premium you pay for it will never pay itself back in fuel costs - it's not a bad choice at all, just unlikely to make financial sense. If you don't need an SUV - there are a ton of petrol V90s on the used market as a consequence of the lease deals. £22k for a 1 year old one with great spec.
