Pilot Sport 4 to Primacy 4?
Discussion
Hi
I have 215/45/R17 Pilot Sport 4 on my car atm, but theyre too hard for my liking (get a LOT of vibration into the cabin which basically causes rattles everywhere). Only on some days do I get no noise, which im guessing is when the tyres are warmed up enough and every other variable is literally perfect
Would switching to 215/45/R17 Primacy 4 be worth it? I know switching to 16's would be favourable, but out of budget.
Tyrereviews rates the comfort at 86 vs pilot sport 4 at 81 which doesnt seem like much to me, but id take it
Car is an Ibiza FR 2016

I think PS4s don't have the best reputation for noise, but on the plus side they are a top of the line premium perfromance tyre.
Primacies are Eco tyres on the other hand - so have less grip though apparently less rolling resistance to return a better mpg. Toyota GT86s came with Primacies and plenty of people noted how little grip they gave (in a good way i.e. drifto)
Silly as it sounds have you checked your pressures?
I'm sure someone will be along in a moment with a known quiet tyre. My gut says there would be a better compromise than Primacies.

I found the ride on the PS4 to be perfectly fine, what other tyres have you tried on this particular car?
I had Dunlop Sport Maxx but gashed one of them on a curb so decided to replace all 4 for PS4stanglish said:

Yeah ive tried loads of different pressures ranging from 28 to 32, 28 is less rough but still feels like driving with concrete wheels. the FR suspension (or lack of at the back) doesnt help, as its crashy as it could possibly bePrimacies are Eco tyres on the other hand - so have less grip though apparently less rolling resistance to return a better mpg. I don’t think Primacy are eco tyres? Michelin’s eco tyres have always been branded ‘Energy’.Primacies are Eco tyres on the other hand - so have less grip though apparently less rolling resistance to return a better mpg. Primacy are what’s fitted to normal everyday cars. A friend has just bought a new Peugeot 308. That’s come with Primacy. My Dad runs them on his A8.

I stand corrected on the Eco business. Think most people with 86s found them disappointing but entertaining however, so that was probably an assumption on my part.Primacy are what’s fitted to normal everyday cars. Maybe worth having realistic expectations when changing tyres in that case. Don't think it will be transformative though it sounds like it's driving OP batty.

I had the exact same tyres from new, and when they wore out I decided to go for cheaper Roadstones (free puncture replacements).I have 215/45/R17 Pilot Sport 4 on my car atm, but theyre too hard for my liking (get a LOT of vibration into the cabin which basically causes rattles everywhere). The slightly softer side wall caused a noticeable improvement in ride quality.
However, PS4s never caused vibration for me. Are you sure you don't have a wheel balance or alignment issue?

Goodyear f1 assy 5 are the quietest most comfortable tyres I’ve had. I run two of the same car one on Goodyear 205/45/17 and one on continental eco contacts 215/45. The Goodyears are nicer.
Hmm thats interesting, I watched a tyrereviews video where he said he noticed more road imperfections compared to the PS4Grrbang said:

Yeah I actually recently just had balancing done, but havent had an alignment check. Will definitely have that done before I decide to replace the tyres anyway. The slightly softer side wall caused a noticeable improvement in ride quality.
