Can anyone explain what a ‘voiture de Société’ is?

Mrs P needs a runaround, I’ve seen what looks to be a good buy but it’s described as a ‘voiture de Société’..... anyone know what this is? What are the implications of buying a ten year old car categorised thus? *confused*

I had a Société’.205 when I first moved to France. It had no back seats and had to have CT for emissions every year.Can`t remember if I had to pay more for immatriculation.
Having said that it was probably one of the best cars I have ever had and I had no problem when I came to sell it.

The downside is if you want to convert it to 4 seats and register it as such, I understand it must be done by a main dealer. As you can imagine, this negates the cost saving on the purchase price......

Voiture de Societe simply means Company Car!

A company car in the UK sense, is a voiture de fonction. A voiture de société is only used at work. They all (as far as I know) have no rear seats and usually white.

A "voiture de Société" in France is bought with a minor VAT and is driven only for the needs of the company exepted if your are the boss of the company !!!
A "voiture de fonction" in France is bought with full VAT and is driven by one person. The company must declare this and so collect a summ on your salary every month or the person will declare every year the car and will have to pay taxes because it's a natural advantage and could be consider as disguised remuneration.
A "voiture de société" is a 2 seats car if the car was a 4 or 5 seats..... You must pay for the transformation and have a société "grey card" (V5)
You can buy the car as is. Nothing to pay more than a standard car but pollution control every year must be correct. Insurance is less expensive in France because 2 seats.
You can buy a "société" car and come back to a standard registration if you pay the transformation from 2 to 4 or 5 seats but it's rarely done. When companies had less taxes on "voitures de société" it was cool to buy a Range Rover with 2 seats. after 5 years you just had to buy the car to your company for a minimum and to come back to 4 seats.....
