Low mileage company cars

I’ve just put a deposit down on a 6 month old Fiesta Hybrid.

Nice car with 1900 miles on it.

It’s been a company car (the garage made no attempt to hide this) and has a sticker saying ‘this car must not exceed 9000 miles)

I’m curious as to what business model makes sense to let a car go at this age/mileage.

I’m not complaining, I’ve got a basically new car for nearly £6k off list price.

Probably Ford’s own company car scheme.
My father had rovers when Bae owned them. Had to change them every 10,000 miles to give Rover low mileage used stock, use up new stock without heavy discounts, etc etc. We used to get a new car every 3 or 4 months.

Fairly common, I know Mercedes do the same. 9 months or 9k miles, whichever is soonest.

Could be a courtesy car, daily renter (though usually these are just under 18000) or some if the really big fleets were on this deal, a mate with ADT got a new Ford every 9000 miles.

Does it have an Essex reg? And are you buying it from a Ford Dealership? If so, then it will have either been a Ford staff car or possibly a hire car. My money would be on it being owned by Ford.

I've just bought a Ford Direct Puma for the Mrs. 6 months old with 500 miles on the clock with pretty much every extra option factory fitted.

Could be a ford car, but they dont limit the mileage on staff and family cars

My employer has long term hire cars as pool cars.
They have similar stickers warning of mileage limits.

It's quite common, they keep the used market fed & keep on moving new stock it's a win win.

Indeed. They do the same for 'essential car users' at our place. Long term rental from Hertz, when you get near the mileage limit you ring them up and they swap the car out for a newer one.

If they ever need a service it gets farmed out to the lowest bidder with a VAT registration, usually random one-man-band mobile mechanics.

My job entitles me to have a company car even though I work from home and have very little reason to travel.

Ex-neighbour worked for a road construction company - Amey, I think - and he had Renaults which had a sticker on the dash about the 9K limit. They'd been told it would be a serious disciplinary offence to go over 9K.

Problem for him was that was 3 months use - he'd have another car on order before his current one arrived.
